In a 24hour period, the only thing more important to your health and mental function is in fact air. You will have more negative impact from 24hours without sleep then you would if you didn't eat or drink water.
Not only can it do damage itself, but it can seriously mess up your circadian rhythm. If it gets thrown off, it can be difficult to get back on track again. If you must cut into sleep time, try to spread it out throughout the week and stay on a fairly regular schedule.
The circadian rhythm affects more than just sleep. It affects all kinds of mental and physical functions.

Yes it will, it will seriously harm your mental health. Just a day without sleep can impact mental health. It will also greatly affect your concentration levels and cause you to make mistakes.
