People who were/are in college, did you live on campus?

I finished up community college and am going to a rural mountainous liberal arts college for a bachelors beginning in the fall. I will be in a dorm with probably like 1-3 other students. Being a transfer, I hope my seniority and age will allow me to room with upper level students rather than sweet summer child freshmen. I don’t really know what to expect living on campus so it would be nice to compare notes.

I am fortunate to be accepted into this college I applied for, with less than 1,000 undergrads. The small class size is something I appreciated a lot about community college and being an introvert, I felt overwhelmed to even visit some of the larger universities during my tours. I also hope that the enclosed environment will encourage me to concentrate more closely on these classes which are higher level and more demanding than CC.

I lived off campus but mainly because I was shy. I was scared to share rooms with someone I didn't know and have to use shared bathrooms and showers and whatnot across the entire dorm. So I found cheap apartment just 20 mins drive on average (12 mins or so with good traffic) away from my uni.

I got over the shyness and mainly through uni. If I did again and was young again, I'd probably do dorm route. Seems awesome and with way closer parties. But back then I was so shy and I had extra money from full scholarship so I mostly worked to buy my books and pay for my cheap apartment.

I lived off campus. I rented a room. We had a 36 inch "big" screen TV, pool table and about 200 VHS movies in the library. Yes, I know ancient times, however, it was a nice place, big back yard and deck in the city. I shared the common areas with two other guys. The lady who owned the house had her own quarters upstairs. The real bonus as that it was $120/month and just a 5 minute drive to the university.

It was a sweet deal, even back then. I heard other people say 300-400 was the norm. She was awesome too. If I knew I was going to be late, she would make my dinner around the time I was to get home. I just had to put whatever I was having out. I would clean up all the dishes in return.

it's usual to live on campus during your 1st year and then off-campus for the other years, but it depends

All 4 years I lived on campus.
Freshman and sophomore year was a twin share room, junior year was a single room in a quad pod and senior year was a single room only dorm meant for juniors or seniors that had a 3.8CGPA, all years required a meal plan as all on campus housing were fully catered.

On campus living , is a con job , but when you have just arrived it's a good way to learn about the place and where are the best off campus accommodations. Also it helps you get to know good roommates to share the off campus place. So it's good to do the first semester in the doms, u can also secure your meat scene when you are in the doms and living co-ed. So what is your major.

No, all 3 of them were one or two short bus rides away.
One was 20:00 to 25:00 away, another was another 5:00 beyond that and the other was about a 20:00 bus ride and a 10:00 walk, unless I didn't feel like walking, or shitty weather, then it'd be a 25:00 minute bus ride and then another that was only about 5:00.

I lived on campus. I did not like my roommate but i made some friends and even found s girlfriend. The food was not bad freshman year but the college changed food vendors the next year and the food was shit. I took a year off after high school to try and earn some money for school so I had a lot of different experiences that ordinary freshmen did not have. I certainly had no problems getting up for an 8 o'clock class.

I had 8 years of college. Only the first two were living in a dorm on campus.

But I think you should focus on the reason you are there rather than your living situation. You are there to get the degree. Yes, it's better if you can be comfortable and maybe even happy with your living situation. But it might be better to keep your eye on the prize and give less priority to the rest. That way you don't have to stress over those things so much.

I went to university in my hometown. Its a totally different experience living on campus compared to driving there and leaving. Actually felt a complete disconnect since most of the people in residence already knew each other. I was just guy who came and went.

I never hung out with anyone from school either. I travelled to other cities where my hometown friends went.

Only my freshman year. My roommate was a freshly born-again Christian. I never wanted to sleep in another room with anyone else (other than a girlfriend/wife) again.

Best thing I ever did was get off of campus.

As an undergraduate, I lived on campus for two years, then off campus for two years. In law school, I lived in university off-campus housing for two years, then rented a house for me and the future ex for the last year.

I lived on campus and enjoyed the environment. I was at a specialized school where on campus meant being surrounded by people with similar interests, so it was fun and great for studying

No I did not live on campus as it was cheaper and I lived very near to the university. I would only recommend staying on campus if you are talking a lot of courses or live very far away from the university. Other wise it would just be a waste of money.

My friends who did live on campus said they did not find the experience that enjoyable so you probably will not be missing out on much even if you did chose to live off campus

I always lived in off-campus housing. Appartments, houses; that sort of thing. Part of me wonders if I missed out on something by not experiencing dorm life.

My college was in my hometown. I lived with my parents freshman year, then had my own off-campus apartment each year until I graduated.

Be careful of that my neighbor went to Virginia tech and his roommate was an alcoholic. He said he had to get out of there and get it on private apartment.
