What’s the funniest thing that happened on a job interview?

Once, back in my country - Georgia there was this young Sheikh from Dubai looking for employees for his company. I didn’t know about him, I just read about job position and got interested.

I was looking for a job and the pay was good, I went on an interview, the guy was very flirty all along, at some point he told me he was looking for his 2nd wife 🤣🤣🤣

And then he told me he would marry me and take me to Dubai if I wanted to marry. I said I was just looking for a job, not marriage, especially I wasn’t interested to be someone’s 2nd wife, then he had a globe on his desk and he turn this globe around and told me he would take me anywhere I’d choose, I still said, thank you but I was just looking for a job not marriage and I had to leave, he then bent down on his knees and sang me some Arab songs… 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I mean songs were nice, but this situation was ridiculous.

That’s the funniest job interview I’ve had.

Oh, forgot, he also offered to make me the owner of the branch of his company in my country and when he saw my phone, he said, we are going to the shop now, we need to change it into new one.

Of course, I talked my way to leave. All of it was crazy, I am happy he finally didn’t kidnap me. 😂

Yeah, I would have to agree. You avoided a potentially dangerous situation. Anyway, when I interviewed for my first job, I was literally sitting on the edge of the chair, sitting straight up with my hands folded in my lap. I was SUPER nervous. I was 16 years old and this was my very first job interview. At one point, the hiring manager told me to sit back and relax and that “this is not the Spanish Inquisition.” That made me laugh and I lightened up. 😂

As a teen applying at Target, they asked me if it’s ok for a worker to make out with their s. o. during work. I said “Yes but if a customer asks for help they have to stop.” Surprisingly they didn’t disqualify me for this answer. But they did disqualify me for whatever else I said.


Also at an orientation they showed a sexual harassment training video. When it showed a woman harassing a married man by trying to seduce him, I was the only one who laughed X, D (still a teenager and the rest were adults).


Then the lecturer asked a quiz question. I answered and got a free Target doggy plushie! A reward for not being afraid to speak and interact. The other candidates looked at me without moving their heads, wanting a plushie too. Then they started answering quiz questions but none of them got a plushie :D

I went to interview for Department of Water Resources, and the ladies doing the interview were completely out of it.

First I went to the wrong gate, and the lady on the intercome told me to go the east side of the building. When I gave her the street name, she was confused and didn't even know what street her building was on.

Then during the interview itself, one of the ladies couldn't even elaborate on her own stupid question, and the other lady told me to honk at the security guard when I leave, even though she knew I came in without a car🤣

Usually, I'M the one who's underprepared for the interview. The whole thing felt like a joke.😂 It was so hard to take them seriously. And these were state employees 😂

Well, I found him very creepy, that’s why I wasn’t much ruder with him, figured from his character that would be better if I stayed diplomatic and polite while rejecting his offers. I was 21 at that time and a bit more inexperienced, I would be stricter this time but I still find this experience hilarious from this perspective.

Thank you, I know you mean it as a compliment, but I don’t see myself as a broken girl, at that time of the job interview I was the VP of that youth organization where I was managing my peers who were the children of president and parliament deputies as well as couple local millionaires. It never came to my mind to sell myself to the rich of the world. And for you to think it took me strength to decline, I feel a bit more insulted than complimented. :P I know you don’t mean in a bad way though. And I accept the compliment. Thank you. 🤍 Probably some girls would give in, but I want to believe that most girls - wouldn’t.

To answer the question though, the manager stopped about a third of the way through the interview and asked me if I wanted to grab a drink with her. I said yes. I got the job.

Hey! Thank you! I am happy you know about Georgia and like our wine. You know we are very proud if our wine culture, each family makes their own wine, I did help my grandfather too every year.

When do you plan going to Georgia?

Not soon enough :) Been hard to get any time off work lately. It's been SO busy and we're so understaffed... if I miss a day there's soooo much piling up when I get back... Plus I have some long term commitments I have to see through... Maybe next year. When's the best time to go where it will be least touristy?

Hard to say, because we have snowy mountains in winter and sunny beaches in summer, so Georgia can be tourist destination all around the world, but I would suggest April/May - or the end of September/October - Georgia can be a bit less touristy at those months and you would still be able to see a lot of things.

How did you hear about Georgian wine the first time?

I went to a georgian restaurant outside washington dc... had "orange wine" or "amber wine" and thought oh well this is really fun... more of this... then lunch turned into me, my friend and her boyfriend still there 6 hours later because their wine selection was much larger than we thought and we wanted to try as much as we could. I found a wine store that actually had a pretty good selection, so i bought 50 bottles of various things to compare. Most of them were quite decent and while a few were not to my liking based on my particular palette there were none that were outright bad and given the right conditions I'd serve any of them. Then I started reading up on the clay pots they are aged in and HOW OLD the winemaking is there and well... I just knew I had to go and walk the vineyards myself.

Plus all the people in the restaurant were no more than 1st gen American, so they were all super happy that we liked georgian food and wine so much. When it got slow everybody came out to sit with us and tell us about this wine or that wine and where it comes from... the chef talked to us a lot about georgian food and the history of the cuisine. one of the line cooks spoke zero English except "georgia good, usa good" with a big smile on his face. the owner brough us a free bottle from his private reserve to open so we shared that with the whole staff. we had tried to leave because they had technically closed 2 hours earlier and well... some people may want to go home but they insisted we stayed, so we stuck around until we could barely move from all the food and wine.

truly a great bunch of people, and if that's any indication of what's going on in that country then i need to get there.

hahahah, yep, that’s what will happen in Georgia, you’ll get fat after 2 weeks there, because people love treating you a lot. And they are usually very very hospitable.

I am happy you enjoyed that experience.

Georgian people are very friendly and fun to hang out with. In the former Soviet Union there was this reputation of Georgians, that when you go to the party wherever you see the people the most enjoying the party and having the time of their life - there must be Georgians somewhere haha. So, Georgians are not very hard working, but they do love having fun and I am sure you’ll love it there.

For the funniest time was when I was interviewing to be a waiter at a restaurant and somebody overheard the interview and interrupted it to offer me a better job. I finished the interview and went and filled out paperwork from the guy who interrupted the meeting lol
