I don't know why all these companies expect people to bend over backwards for them anymore... we all work to live, not live to work. Since when did these companies expect people to eat-breathe-sleep work? I understand they want the best person for the job, but most people are very capable of a position once they settle in, if the position and work flows are well structured.
And when you take this question and consider how tough it is out there anymore, to actually afford the essentials in life and everything is being priced high. I don't see how setting the bar so high for everyone is even remotely the appropriate approach. People don't want to put up with the workplace politics and put the fake corporate BS game face on and play along.
People want a good paycheck at the end of the week, that's it. Stop making it more than what it is.

It's more of wanting quality workers. There's a difference in performance and personality between those just here for a paycheck and those who actually want to be there.
For example, between two equally skilled workers, would you rather have one who has a bad attitude or won't help out coworkers, or would you prefer someone with a good attitude and is a team player?
Sure but I can be the latter and have a good attitude and still be “some dude” looking to collect a paycheck at the end of the day. It’s not like one thing even directly equates to another. We are people, not robots, despite what our employees seem to want and expect from us.
Yeap, but that possibility isn't enough. That's why we ask for references and run background checks, to help. us better understand who we are hiring.
What do background checks typically consist of anyway? Do you know?
Housing records, criminal records, where you went to school and when, any degrees and certifications, if you're married etc.
What's even worse is that every job now requires some bullshit third-party certification, like for instance pharmacy technician jobs are requiring certifications to count pills. Soon you will to be certified to bag groceries or do fries at McDonald's.
