Sharing your number to customers?

If you’re working in a company in a department that handles customer’s complaints. Do you share your private number with customers to help serve them better?

Today I got a lecture from my boss because I made her go to her car to get work phone when I could’ve given a customer my mobile number. Also, if u want to progress in life you need to make sacrifices and work even after working hours. So even if customer contacts you while you’re at home you can help him. It doesn’t make sense what she said but I feel hurt. It’s like saying I don’t work hard or put effort and that I don’t want to progress in my career

No. You keep your work and private lives separate- unless you're in a position where emergency medical needs and knowledge might be relevant. That's a bigger group than you might expect at first- I went through it as a school bus driver, for example- but it almost certainly doesn't extend to call center customer service.

Exactly! She keeps comparing how GMs and HOD are working beyond working hours and sometimes sleep at work, and that I am not willing to sacrifice and have an attitude for not working beyond my working hours. Of course I’m not gonna work from home. I do sometimes stay at work till after 4pm when I have a huge workload, never said no if they ask me to attend on weekends. Yet it’s never enough.

This is stupid expats mentality we have in our country. Her husband has a really high position and is a workaholic, and she doesn’t have kids. So you can tell that she has free time and investing it on work

I've always found that with people like this , you never do actually progress , they say you will but you dont , I worked all my life on commission , in some roles it was worth it , but in many you wouldn't make any more money ( finite product that could be sold 5 times over ) , when I had hosts and hostesses working for me , I told them , never give out your private number and it can always wait until tomorrow , and bottom line is - it can ! People always exaggerate , and imply " now now now " thats bullshit.

I don't give my personal number to a customer, unless they're a regular customer, and even then, only in special circumstances that I determine.

Nope. Unless I'm on travel and they need to contact me as to when to show up or something. But I wouldn't in a public customer setting.
