The Wolfenstein franchise is one of the most iconic video game franchises out there. Not only does each game have amazing gameplay but the series itself is considered the “grandfather of first person shooters”. It’s a wonder why nobody has thought of making a movie or tv show out of it. Although the latter is preferable. Hypothetically speaking, what if in the near future a Wolfenstein TV show or web series were created? Who would play who? Well in this take I’ll give my personal opinion on who’d be great candidates for each character. This list will only cover central characters
1) John Cena as William Blazkowicz: Right now, the candidate who has the perfect physical appearance to portray the protagonist of the series is John Cena. The character of Blazkowicz is a tough and intelligent US soldier who is basically a one man army. Some other potential candidates for the role are John Bernthal, Mark Valley, Chris Pratt, Channing Tatum, Chris Hemsworth and Sam Worthington.
2.)Rebecca Ferguson as Anya Oliwa: Blazkowicz’s love interest Anya Oliwa could be played by Rebecca Ferguson. This actress has done a few action films such as Mission impossible: Fallout. When it comes to physical appearance she bears a slight resemblance to Anya oliwa from the games.
3.) James Mcavoy as Wilhelm “deathshead” Strasse: The game character is a heavily scarred elderly man but based on James Mcavoy’s performance in split, he could definitely portray Wilhelm Strasse. A good makeup job could give him a resemblance to the heavily scarred villain Wilhelm Strasse.
4.)Robert Englund as Set Roth: Robert Englund is known for playing villainous characters in horror movies. However I think he would be perfect for the role of one of the good guys in the form of Set Roth. An intelligent scientist of a technologically advanced organization. Robert Englund does resemble the in game Set Roth.
5.) Martyn Ford as Hans Grosse: The character of Hans Grosse is a physically imposing SS soldier. He is one of the most memorable villains in the Wolfenstein series. His favorite catch phrase is “Guten tag!”. In the Wolfenstein universe he’s depicted as the very best the third Reich had to offer. The only person who’s been able to defeat him is William Blazkowicz. If there is anyone who can portray this character it’s Martyn Ford who is a 6’8”, over 300lbs bodybuilder and actor, soon to be mixed martial artist who usually portrays large villains in movies.
6.)Dwayne Johnson as Bombate: An ally of Blazkowicz. Bombate is a Namibian resistance fighter and has a good sense of humor. Dwayne Johnson would definitely be a good match for this role.
7.)Nathan Jones as Trans Grosse: Trans is one of hans’s Brothers. Trans Grosse translates to “beyond big”(Trans means beyond in Latin and Grosse means big in German) He too is a villain and is physically larger than Hans hence his name. The perfect actor to portray him would be Nathan Jones, a 7 foot strongman and former proffesional wrestler, much like Martyn Ford, he too usually portrays large villains on screen.
8.)Lindsay Kay Hayward as Gretel Grosse: The younger sister of Hans and Trans. She too is a physically imposing individual. There’s only one actress that I know of that could portray Gretel Grosse. Her name is Lindsay Kay Hayward, she stands 6’8” and weighs around 240lbs, she was also a professional wrestler.
9.)Halle Berry as Grace Walker: A leader of the American resistance. Halle Berry has played numerous tough female characters, she would definitely be perfect for this role.
10.) Dolph Lungren as Elite Hans: Although the character of Elite Hans is merely a piece of Nazi fiction in the Wolfenstein series, I wouldn’t be surprised if a character like him makes an appearance in future Wolfenstein installments. In a movie, I think Dolph Lumdgren would perfectly fit the role of this cybernetic super soldier.
11.)Liam Neeson as Horton Boone: Horton is a very unusual character who can be described as a paradox. Horton is depicted as a Marxist, Southern moon shining Religious preacher. Yeah, that’s the quite the combination. Horton is always preaching gospels and drinking moonshine and is resistance fighter. When it comes to physical appearance, Liam Neeson comes close to resembling him.
12.)Christoph Waltz as Adolf Hitler: Adolf Hitler makes several appearances throughout the series. From being the final boss character to merely making a Cameo. The one actor who can pull off the role of a older Adolf Hitler is Christoph Waltz, he’s played 2 iconic villains(Hans Landa and Ernst Stavro Blofeld).
13.)Carrie Anne Moss as Caroline Becker: Caroline Becker is a German resistance fighter in the series. She was presumed dead for a while before reappearing in a wheel chair in the newer Wolfenstein games. She manages to regain her mobility via a special suit. The best candidate for this character is Carrie Anne Moss.
14.)DJ Qualls as Probst Wyatt: Wyatt is one of William’s closest friends in the series, he appears to be an apprentice of William Blazkowicz. He depicted as a young, naive character. The one actor who could portray him is DJ Qualls.
15.)Ewan Mcgregor as Fergus Reid: One of Blazkowicz’s best friends, in the video game series, Blazkowicz was forced to spare either Fergus or Wyatt. Ewan could be a potential actor to play the role.
16.) Bridgette Nielsen as Irene Engel: Irene Engel is one of the main antagonists in the series, she leads all third Reich military personnel in the US, she’s very stern and sinister. The one actress who could portray her is Bridgette Nielsen.
17.) Gwendoline Christie as Sigrun Engel: Irene Engel’s daughter Sigrun is the opposite, she’s compassionate, timid and has no loyalty to the Nazi regime. She also suffers verbal abuse from her mother, prompting her to defect to towards the resistance. Gwendoline Christie is the best candidate to play the role of Sigrun Engel because she closely resembles the in game Sigrun.
18.) Vincent D’Onofrio as Max Hass: Max Hass is a character who can only say his name but is both highly intelligent and physically strong. He’s one of the resistance members. After seeing Vincent’s performances in Full metal Jacket and Daredevil, I think he is perfect for the role.
19.) William H Macy as Heinrich Himmler: Heinrich Himmler had only made one brief Cameo in the entire Wolfenstein series so far. Which is odd considering that the Wolfenstein series explores the occult, Something Himmler was rumored to be interested in. A Heinrich Himmler in the 1960s would ave been in his 60s so an older actor like William H Macy should portray him.
20.)Mads Mikkelsen as Dr. schabbs: The character of Dr. schabbs is portrayed as a mad scientist who created several Übermutants. I don’t know any other actor who could portray Dr. schabbs besides Mads Mikkelsen.
Closing thoughts: A Wolfenstein web series would need at least 5 seasons to cover all the key areas of the whole Wolfenstein universe. As three new Wolfenstein games have been recently teased, one has to wonder what the future holds for the Wolfenstein series. Will there be a Wolfenstein web series or movie saga in the near future? I guess we will have to wait and see.
