The movie wasn't realistic - they made an artistic choice rather than strictly adhering to history.

I don't know about the book, but in the amazing stage musical this abomination of a movie is based on, the prisoners do not have shaved hair.
No idea, it don't seems logic at all. I think in the book they shaved their beard too but it been so many years I've read it I don't remember ><
Beards grow in faster than hair at first. It's too much trouble constantly having to shave the face. Did I get it right guys?
