PS: gifted books are a kind of recommendation in my opinion. So I would count that as well.

NONFICTION
I haven't read it yet, but I did buy it and look forward to reading it:
The Zoologist's Guide to the Galaxy
by Arik Kershenbaum

This 2020 book I learned about probably about 4 to 5 years ago. I think first when I was reading a Wall Street Journal book review, then a New York Times book review. (At this time of year, major publications release their Best of [Year] lists. For instance, last week, the NYT released its list of 100 Notable Books for 2025.
FICTION
Speaking of which - that NYT 100 Notable Books list, but for 2017, was how I discovered and then rushed out to buy this book:
The Power
by Naomi Alderman

It later was on the NYT's Top 10 of 2017 and was the first thing listed on Obama's 2017 reading list. It has been adapted to a series on Amazon.
I DID read this book - multiple times - and given it as a gift - multiple times. It changed my life in making me "woke" as to how women go through life currently.
"Shocking" is a double-entrendre here. The basic premise is that teen girls begin to gain a new organ to be able to deliver electric shocks like an electric eel can. These shocks can be lethal. Eventually all women can gain this organ and even baby girls are born with it. NO MALES HAVE IT.
Thus, what happens is that females literally become the more powerful gender and the world is thrown into chaos.
It's a disturbing, but engrossing novel. Not a TL:DR and no one stops reading in the middle.
A course in miracles. It was picked out specifically for me, by the universe, lol. It kind of found me in a way, I was talking to someone and they said the things I was saying; sounded like direct quotes from a book they were reading. They told me the name of that book was a course in miracles. That got me interested enough to buy it for myself... Ohhh the irony!
I have a friend who I jokingly call my “book sugar daddy” he’s always buying me books that he knows I want while pairing them with books he wants me to read. I moved recently, so they’re still packed up, but he’s been steadily sending me new books about concepts and ideas I’ve never considered before him, books about the law of attraction, channeling, and occult rituals. We share a mutual interest in the latter, and he just recently gave me the book detailing the rituals of The Hermetic Order of The Golden Dawn. It’s fascinating.
Mage Errant.
It was recommended to me by a friend, because he knew it was a genre I would like.. erh, well, technically he just talked about the book a lot, until I gave in and wanted to read it for myself.
It's been really interesting and has something unique about it. And I like the characters and their growth.
I'm on book 4 in the series.
The last book I read based on a recommendation was *The Night Circus* by Erin Morgenstern. It was outside my usual genre since I often gravitate towards non-fiction and art books, but my friend insisted I'd love its magical and visual storytelling. It was an enchanting read with its atmospheric setting and imaginative details, definitely a recommendation I appreciated! 📚✨

Legends & lattes. Ended up being a great recommendation and I enjoyed reading it.
How to make friends and influence people by Dale Carnedgie is the last I can remember. I got in my 20s thinking I didn´t need that book and later had to realise that the book is more about how to influence people than making friends.
It taught valueable lessons I still try to follow.
It´s the kind of book nobody thinks they need while many people these days would benefit from reading it.
This was not the last book that I read my sister started reading it to me and then something happened. We got sidetracked and it was stopped so I soon after continued on. I was still very interested in this book. I was very excited to read it. it’s called run baby run the Nicky Cruz story. It’s a true story. I love the book so much. I actually wrote the author and he wrote me back twice. It was a story about his life I was 12 years old
I can't remember the last time someone recommended a book tome. I am usually the one to recommend one. Me and one of my friends read books and discuss their stories and character development almost every week. We read Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy earlier this year. it was okay, but I wouldn't recommend it. Now we are reading Dragonlance Chronicles book one. It's really good in my opinion.
i got recommended The Snow Child and it was good
its something i'd read and might reread someday
My brother recommended Amityville Horror. I actually listened to it on YouTube but it was good. I know, I cheated.
"i'm glad my mom died" by jennette mccurdy and it was a last year birthday gift and I finally started reading it and I love it!!
I have started reading Carl Sandberg's biography of Abraham Lincoln.
The Pillars of the Earth recommended by my mom. It was a good one.
"Who Am I" - Autobiography of Pete Townsend
Because of someone would be 'Making Ideas Happen' by Scott Belsky which I was lent by a good friend
Otherwise would be 'Broke' by David Boyle which was recommended on Wikipedia as I was updating my death list
