Was it wrong for my parents not to teach me my native language?

Anonymous
I've been living in Maine since I was 3 years old and my parents never taught me my native language. They didn't want to.

The few words I can think besides besides judo, kamikaze, sushi and tsunami are:
Aisukurimu (ice-cream)
Arigato (thank you)
Docchi (Which direction?)

That's about it. It's a very difficult language and unique at the same time. It's a shame that if I ever visit the country, I'll be a foreigner in my own homecountry. I'm missing out a lot. Was it wrong for them to refuse to teach me?
