Why is it so hard to make friends as an adult?

Adults are always up for small talk but when it comes to being friends, nobody ever wants to be friends. Nobody ever cares to hangout. Even people who do not have friends, they never consistently follow up with plans or try to make time to consistently meet. Some even like rejecting offers to hangout.

i know that site. i went to a few meetups. what usually happens is I meet up with a group and people and we never hear from each other again. Sometimes, when you ask to hangout, they rarely ever do.

It took me 6 months on "social/hobby" and about a month on indoor/outdoor Soccer

6 months sounds reasonable. 1 month sounds unreasonable. but its not very common people will consistently meet up on weekly for a month. From my experience, most people like to drop out on plans.

My groups are 30 plus...50 on soccer pitch. 25 % overlap. I'm in a 1.5 million town and 60% married, excellent economy, and family place

i live in nyc, one of the unfriendliest cities in the world. Natives are all moving out, only transplants want to live here and pay the insane rent.

I too am in the Eastern times zone but not NE. I was not impressed with Boston so got out of there as soon as able !!

I hate the NE. sorry. But I love the south. the sun is so amazing down there. CA really hits the spot. People are always sunny , smiling, have such an amazing cheerful dew, fun loving, beautiful beaches. I'm moving down there in a few years.

Maybe at that age, people already have their social circles, live busy lives, just want to keep to themselves, etc.

Well, not all of them and maybe not even the majority. I think some just want to keep to themselves, and others want to go out more and make more friends but are unknowing in how to do so or too timid/shy to consistently keep up with this

I just find that many people claim they don't have friends. I tell them I am interested in hanging out if they'd like. They agree but never follow up.

It is for the same reason that you are asking this question.. Internet! We don't go out because everything is available at the touch of a hand or voice command. Still doesn't work very well, but the means of connecting has reversed from physical to digital. You and everyone else can still make friends at work though..

If you truly want something, you would make time for it. there's really no such thing as not having the time to do certain things. its like saying you're too busy to eat food or poop or sleep. No matter how busy you are, you will make time to do these things.
