I don't know how Common it is in the United states, but where I'm from in my country 18 is considered an adult, the age of majority like the usa and it's culturally expected that the moment before you turn 20 years old that you should have already cut off ties with anyone below the legal threshold of adults. I've seen 18 or 19 year olds play ball with elementary schoolers and middle schoolers but then as soon as they turn 20 they're expected to only have friends 18 or older. There were neighborhood kids in my old neighborhood that were like 10 or 11 to 16, my parents at the time knew their parents and I played video games and ball with them but stopped as I turned 20 cause that would be seen as amward.

LOL no.
If you are friends you stay friends even when someone has a birthday and is now officially one year older.
I did not. I'd find that disappointing and silly.
Hopefully you being 48 you don't anymore
You're correct but I don't like the idea that if I was 18 and about to graduate from high school that I would all of a sudden just not interact with a friend who was 14 or no longer play soccer (as one example) with a group of people. I just find the whole idea incomprehensible.
Nope. Many of my current friends, most in fact, were with me from high school or earlier.
