As someone who grew up with cats I KNOW they do😅
they do, but most of the time they just don’t care. Once I put a printed picture of orange cat with crisscross on my front-door because it keeps sneaking from my front door. It stopped visiting the front-door, but coming inside from the backdoor. Cats are smart and able to understand human, but they just don’t give a s**t.

Here's the thing, we may never know because cats just don't care. They are their own self contained unit and go about their day as if they're the only thing that matters, lol
If I hurt myself Tabby is concerned.
They understand our rules but pretend not to. Like no clawing the couch. He knew he was going to be rebuked so he would flattened his ears back before I yelled at him for scratching it
We are still working on the no walking on the keyboard rule. He thinks it is OK.
They understand, they just don’t care lol

Oh yea they do. Animals are more sensitive than you think. They can feel loss too. So if something’s not right with you, they’ll sense it and will come to you for comfort and check how you’re doing.
They absolutely understand us. Could we read them novels and poetry in our respective languages? No. But do they understand us? Better believe it.
They know a can of tuna will be opened in the kitchen before I do! 🤔🤯😂
I think they do, sometimes the facial expressions they make to what we do and say seem to convey very well what they must be thinking, lol.
I think most animals have the capabilities to understand us, if they spend enough time with us.
I know my dog understands me
They do, I had a sphinx cat staying with mr, she loved sleeping under my blanket next to me.

we have our ways to communicate and get around They not only understand us, they can speak English.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/mYnexpU8IpIIf by understand you mean hate and use us for their own well being then yes they understand us
In a "pride" sense they do. It's pretty common knowledge that cats take an affinity to a certain human and bond with them (even if cats seem like loners). Cats will miss that person and stress when that person is removed from thier life.
I think cats understand us as well as they want to.
A lot of the time they seem embarrassed to be living with us.
Most animals that observe humans understand us. To them we are no different to any other animal they'll come across and they'll read our body language and behaviour just the same.
"As someone who grew up with cats I KNOW they do"
This ^They relate to us and understand more at an emotional level but some sounds. We are aliens in their world.
They are all individuals as well.Yes, I know cats can understand tones in our voices.
Maybe they have some understanding of tone or voice, but for the most part, I think cats are pretty stupid
Sometimes they don't, but most times they do. Our cat knows when it's dinner time and knows out means outside. And he says No sometimes.
They understand our actions, tone of voice, and emotions.
Cats are great. Yes they understand us.
