How’d you feel if you found out that you have siblings?

Let’s say you are an adult and figured out you actually have a sibling.

This happened to my dad 2 years ago. At the age of 50.

My dad used to be the eldest brother of three.

My maternal grandma didn’t like talking about her past a lot. She got married to my grandpa at 23.

However seems like she was married before then, and she had her first child at the age of 17, the child died or that’s what they told her when she was 17.

Soviet Union was ugly and a corrupted place.

After it was dissolved lots of ugly deeds came to the daylight. And lots of people figured that lots of hospitals in truth lied to parents about the child’s death and the doctors actually sold the babies born to young mothers to the childless couples. Lots of doctors were arrested.

When this news came to the light, my grandma started doubting that maybe her child didn’t pass away and maybe she too was the victim of a horrible lie of the corrupted doctors.

She started looking for the traces and information and searched for her lost son for years.

Years later she found him.

That man, my new uncle, was already in his 50s, he had already lost his adoptive parents and his sons are older than me. It was very sweet to see them finally reunite, even though my paternal grandma was not a very nice woman, I have never seen her as happy as the day when his lost son got introduced to us and we had our first family dinner together.

My uncles and my dad were really happy to find out that they have an older brother and the lost uncle messages and calls us everyday, he never had any family members, any sisters or brothers and he feels like he won a lottery by finding his real family after so many years.

He loves me and my brother a lot too and often calls us and also often goes and visits my dad. We love him too.

I know it’s like a story from a fairytale but seems like sometimes miracles do happen.

Not my maternal grandma, but my paternal grandma. My dad’s mom. I mix up the words

I would be so curious as to how they are related to me and what was the real story behind everything—what happened that my parents never told me.


I’d want to know the truth about things and contact them, to hear their side of the story.


If I had a half brother or a half sister, I’d feel this innate desire within me to care about their well-being and check in on them.


I’d be interested in getting to know them and hearing all about how their life has been up to this point.

I'm third generation only child. Childbirth does not go easy on the women in my family. Closest I could come would be a half-sibling from my dad's side, and I never claimed his side of the family anyway, so it'd just be another person to me.

wouldn't surprise me at all. My dad has already told me that I most likely have a few more siblings in korea. He was sleeping around a lot there. He barely found out about my sister. If I ever found more siblings who knows if they'd even want to chat or anything just because we are a world aways with totally different cultures and lives.

@KrakenAttackin It was a shock for us too, I was jaw dropped, but regardless it was a very happy news.

You don’t everyday gain a brother right? I figured out it’s a blessing for my dad to have one more brother. And that’s how my brother and uncles felt.

Now there are four of them.

I always thought there’s not a better gift from parents to a child than giving them a sibling.

But I would be very happy of there was a chance of me having more siblings.

Why would that mean, anyone’s a ho?

She gave birth to a life, isn’t it better than having her child aborted?

Nearly anything is better than an abortion which is actually a murder. That said, it's important to remember that women frequently lie about paternity to conceal the fact that they've had an affair or to conceal the fact that they've lied about who their children's fathers are so as to focus on the man that has the most money to give them. This of course victimizes the real father of the child, the guy who's been accused of being the father, and of course the child themselves who grows up not knowing who their father is or knowing that their father is someone who really isn't. I grew up not knowing who my father was because my mother was too selfish to tell anyone.

I don’t know what kind of women do you guys hang out with, I have only seen women lying about paternity in some South American telenovelas that my grandma used to watch.

That being said, I am sorry you never found our who your father was. Is there a chance your Biological mother also didn’t know it or did she hide in purpose?

She hit it on purpose because she was ashamed about the fact that she had an affair with a married man. She also might have been ashamed about the fact that she had sex with someone she wasn't married to but I don't know that for sure.

I am sorry… It must have been painful to live in such uncertainty and to know that your mother could help put the light on it, but she chose not to.

I am sorry to say that but she must have been a very selfish person.

Just hope you know, your siblings might be extremely happy to know of your existence.

I know my father and uncles are very happy to have heard they have one more brother.

Feels like this new brother reunited the whole family.

He’s so cute, he is even more attentive than my 2 other uncles that I’ve known my whole life. Because he has always lacked this sense of family and tries to compensate for it.

My maternal grandma had 8 siblings. The youngest one was conceived when my great grandpa was married to my grandma’s mother, the child’s mother ended up being a Russian prostitute.

The siblings found her when they grew up and made her a part of the family.

Her child, (my extended aunt) is 3 years older than me and we grew up together as best friends.

In my experience, siblings are the biggest treasure and the real family who might be worth having.

Maybe someday they can find you and make you feel home. That would be amazing.

It happened to my wife. She found out she had 3 half sisters and a half brother. Basically she discovered a whole family after growing up as an only child.
