If someone tries to poison a dog (but fails, dog survives), what should happen to them?

Someone tried to poison my friend's female Husky (Julie is her name and she's friendly with everyone) just 2 weeks ago by leaving fat poison and chocolate. Julie was taken to the ER Vet, survived and is doing well now. My friend is now distrusting of others and this has traumatized her. Julie has never given anyone trouble and she lives in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood full of friendly people.

Here is the shocking part:

They've already found who did it. The culprits were 9 year-old twin girls; children. They were blaming each other until one of them admitted to it. This was their first time they tried to poison a pet but fortunately their attempt failed. It's said the girls come from divorced parents and are victims of child negligence, along with possible molestation too.

I'm still in shock to be honest. Whoever does that needs to be away from society. They're dangerous already but those culprits are still children. What should happen to someone that attempt to poison your pet but your pet survives?

awful. and children abusing animals is a classic sign of those childen being abused themselves, maybe why you said that.

They admitted it... that is good. Some people don't and that would be worse.

Your friend learned a valuable lesson about humans didn't she? If she hasn't, then time to learn... You cannot trust them. Think about that... people leave their babies with terribly poorly trained, unliscended and unknown teenagers to babysit. What could go wrong ya think? Learn the lessons, that's what YOU should do, to get the value out of it.

Nothing will happen to those kids so why should I answer?

They must go to therapy to address the problems they took up so they understand right and wrong. , they need social support and care because possibly they were abused.

Ideally, they need to suffer. Find what makes them suffer... like no video games, public service, something that implements empathy and healing.. Somehow they need to learn the reason they did this is they were hurt and they are passing that on. They need to be heard, healed, so they don't repeat. make a good example of them. I'm ok with a spanking first. Think about how a small community would deal with this 10,000 years ago. Do something like that... short of killing them off.

I know kids that would torture creatures and I don't think they were abused. they aren't always abused, they are screwed up in the head, brains not developed and lack empathy. It may be a personality thing and lacking parental guidance.

If those girls abused and molested too, I don't think a spanking would be suitable. It would probably remind them more of the abuse/molestation and likely won't be able to distinguish as discipline. It sounds like corporal punishment might not work in that case.

Yes there are other cases where a child really lacks empathy; they were born without it. In that case, no amount of punishment would make them suddenly develop empathy.

Whether it is cruelty or even confusion doesn't matter. The outcome is what matters. If they tried to kill a dog once, they are highly likely to attempt the same thing again. Preventative measures must be taken so they cannot do it again. And when it comes to preventative measures, there is no kill like overkill.

So sad that these girls are only 9 and they have so much pain that they wanted to kill a living being. People may argue that these girls are too young to know what they were doing. I don't believe that for a second they knew exactly what they were doing and should be punished accordingly. Kids that young trying to kill a living creature is disturbing they definitely need help but they need to realize what they have done. I'm glad they didn't succeed in poisoning Julie.

It's indeed scary that much cruelty can be on a young kid's mind. Hopefully they get the help they need but also punished. My friend is still shocked by all this.

Definitely. Those girls come from a dysfunctional family and if they were truly molested as officers think, that might explain why that evil, deviant behavior at such an early age.

They need to be detained that's for sure and away from other children and animals. It's hard to imagine someone can already be dangerous at such an early age... so young and already have that mindset.
