The other evening my mother came over for dinner. After dinner we were drinking whiskey and smoking as usual on the balcony, but our conversation steered on the past, and also about my sister's death.
Maybe it was the alcohol, but I broke down and cries like I didn't even do on my sister's funeral. My mom just hushed me and hugged me. My wife came out alarmed but my mom told her it was alright.
My mother rarely does mom things and usually just makes fun of me, but that night she just let me cry and held me, and it felt so liberatory. Then she and my wife got me to in bed, and the morning after and even now I feel so much better. I let out some of the burden I accumulated in the past years.
