I did something stupid and now my friend dumped me. What should I do?

So I made a silly mistake that cost me a friendship. I told one of my best friends she should come to my birthday and basically made plans with her way in advance. But when it came to the time of my birthday, I forgot I'd made plans with her and went out with other close friends instead. It wasn't done on purpose.

My friend was obviously really hurt by that, because she sent me a text dumping me and throwing away years of friendship. I don't get how she could end the whole friendship over something so stupid as a birthday celebration? It feels really petty to me?

Should I want this friend back? What should I do?

Depends on the perspective you see it, you think it was something dumb but maybe she was really looking forward to spending time with you on your birthday, who knows maybe she couldn't sleep from excitement for all you know, I know you forgot and it wasn't done on purpose but put yourself in her shoes and how would you take that? Most people if not all would take it as a ditch because people don't usually forget plans like that.

Thanks. I just feel like she made it all about herself though. Like it's my birthday, we don't see each other that much anyway anymore so surely I'm ALLOWED to invite who I want to my own birthday? And she made the day about herself and her own feelings, like I did it to her on purpose.

I get that most people would take it as a ditch, but couldn't she just wait for me? I was going to meet up with her after I just hadn't gotten round to it yet.

I thought you forgot, either ways she wanted to spend time with you and you spent time with someone else, it's not about being selfish or thinking of herself if she wanted to spend time with you.

Maybe apologize to her very sincerely, since you did made plans with her. That's the decent thing to do since you clearly made a mistake there. Then the ball is in her court.

Maybe other things have happened that you have done and this was the final straw for her. Maybe she feels you are always putting the other friends before her.

You could try in sincerely apologising and suggesting that perhaps just the two of you could have a girls day out... Spa, Shopping or Dinner etc.

I would wait until they calm down. Usually, people get hotheaded when they are angry and dont really mean what they say. Give it time.
