Is the ''it's not my child'' even a good excuse for not saving a kid from an abusive parent?

On the news, there was a mother that got charged for killing her own 8 year-old daughter. She claimed evil spirits made her do that. The woman's boyfriend was aware of the abuse and did nothing because it's not his child. He could've made a difference if he had intervened. The little girl would've been alive. He did nothing.

Even if they're not your child and you're just dating the single parent, if the little kid is really getting abused/beaten by their own parent, wouldn't you do something? Is the man's excuse ''she's not my child'' for not saving the little girl even valid?

No, it's not a valid excuse!! I couldn't stand seeing a child being abused physically, emotionally or sexually. Children depend on adults too do the right thing and help them. I hate hearing Children being abused and others know about what's going on and do nothing! They are abusing the child also by not helping the child and should be charged with child abuse as well. In my opinion.

I would alert the authorities as a minimum. Knowing the authorities they probably wouldn't do anything themselves.

You can always record it on your cell and take pictures of it. They would definitely do something if the evidence is right there, if they see it with their own eyes.

If he was dating a schizophrenic and he saw the child getting abused, that was the right time to call the police and even record what's happening with his cell. At least doing something is better than doing nothing.

I think the boyfriend needs to be charged too for act of omission. He stood there, saw it all and did nothing.
