Why is my ex boyfriend texting my best friend?

So my ex and I broke up about 6 months ago. It was a very nasty and bitter break up and still to this day if he sees me out he runs away and will stare at me or sneak glances. Well today he sent my best friend a pic of the Christmas gift he got for me and I told him I was gonna take her( a nail salon gift certificate) and said " I found the present I got you and ash lol". She never responded then he asked her how she was. They Haven't spoken since him and I broke up and he knows her and I are extremely close and tell each other everything so he knew id know about this. Why is he doing that? My current boyfriend thinks its to stir things up or to get his foot back in the door?

because he probably doesn't care what you think and wants to be with her. Stirring things up and getting revenge if it was nasty sounds appropriate too.
