What are the differences between the "I like you" hug and "you are my friend" hug?

This female co-worker and I seem to like hugging each other a lot, when we don't see each other in a while, when we do nice things for each other etc. We talk a lot and laugh and I can see her staring at me from across the room sometimes (like if I'm doing something I can see her with the corner of my eye and I can feel she is looking at me lol). I have never seen her hugging any other co-worker (Well, once, but the guy asked her for one and she had like a "umm, OK, I guess" face) But when we hug she is always smiling and she doesn't seem to mind if there's people around haha. We do either the side hug or the frontal hug and it is tighter than the run of the mill "hey buddy" hug, usually when I give those my arms just kind of rest on the girl and don't do any squeezing. Am I onto something here?

There are a lot of indicators for the different types of hugs including arm position and the length of the hug. The shorter the hug the less affection is expressed, the general rule for the time is 3 seconds or less is friendly, while 4 seconds or more is almost classified as a snuggle. =) As far as arm positions go I'll run through a few for girls. If the arms are around the neck then there's a good chance that they like you because this draws them closer to your face. If the arms are around the man's torso then she sees you as a protector, and therefore a potential person to date. The third one that comes to mind is if the arms are crossed, meaning one around the next and one around the torso, this is the more professional hug and is more friendly then affectionate. Personally, I've noticed that with most people I just wrap my arms around their neck and press my chest to them. But often with guys I like, I will go for somewhere like the waist so I can pull our pelvis's in closer, and lay my head on his chest. I never let them go for a one armed hug. Sometimes it is hard to interpret a hug, especially with how common they are now. But just go with your gut feeling.

I love hugs, so even if we're just friends I usually hug that person anyways. The difference for me though is when I hug my guy friends, my arms go around their shoulders or neck. But when I'm hugging the guy I like, my arms go around his waist and I lay my ear above his heart.

Well, I`m a girl and I would try to avoid hugs with a guy unless I feel at least some physical attraction towards him. So it might be friendship, but with a degree of attraction on her part.

yes you are ha ha the (friends) hug is usually with one arm or if it is with both, it usually isn't an all the way around hug. Her arms will usually just aime up your back.

have you ever seen the episode of How I Met your Mother where the girl hugged ted a lot, turned out she was SUPER friendly.

My suggestion is to ask her out.
