Was this flirting, or am I just bad at reading people?

I recently became friends with a guy who I think might be flirting with me, but I'm not sure because I'm not good at reading those signals. I'm curious about one interaction in particular.

We were hanging out in my dorm room (just us, my roommate was out), and he was sitting in a bean bag chair. I casually laid on my stomach at the corner of my bed so I could look down and talk to him, and he pulled out his phone and took a picture of me, then said, "You look kind of adorable like that," completely nonchalantly and out of the blue.

This may be a dumb question, but is that kind of thing exclusively flirty? Is there a possibility it was just a goofy, friendly thing? Is there a particular context in which it might be one or the other?

Absolutely flirting. The word "kinda" in there tells me he's trying to downplay the compliment if it doesn't work out or he gets a negative response. He hasn't fully committed to flirting outright cuz he's playing the game (I suspect) but that's not a platonic thing to say.

I do like him, but I'm SUPER terrified of rejection, so I don't want to say much unless I'm absolutely sure he feels the same way :) Only thing is, I can never tell if he's flirting or just being nice. There have been plenty of times that could be either/or

Well it can't really be specifically flirty tbh unless he flirts with u otherwise as well

Yeah, you're right. And that isn't the only thing, it's just a specific one I was wondering about. There've been other times where he could've been flirting, but I couldn't tell if it was that or if he was just being friendly. Especially since he's very extraverted and charismatic anyway.

Women love using the word "adorable". I wouldn't think twice about it. As long as he didn't react alarmingly, I would say he didn't sweat it. Women will be Women, as Men will be Men.
