Why do guys suddenly seem more interested in you when you’re not all over them like other women?

There was this guy that I liked. For the first time ever, I actually made the first move. I told a close friend of mines, who is also cool with the guy, that I liked him and so he introduced us. I ended up getting his number but he didn’t text much. He wasn’t giving me much energy at all outside of gleaming off the fact that he knew I liked him like most women did so I pulled away. Other women flocked to him. It’s like he’s a magnet or something and they out of nowhere come to him, talk to him. They always find a reason to be around him and typically, he flirts back and likes the attention which I don’t think is a bad thing. He’s single. I just didn’t want to feel like I was competing for his attention so I fell back. Now, when those women are around and I’m in proximity, he always randomly speaks to me or finds any reason to get my attention. He indirectly flirts but when I showed the slightest interest before he treated me no different than all the other women. He accepted my attention but his actions showed it didn’t move him. Like he we use it., Not texting or texting back etc so I felt his interest wasn’t mutual. Now, he wants my attention all of a sudden.
