What does it mean when a guy calls you special?

This guy told me something and he said he's never told anyone else about it. I was like aww I feel special and he said, "you should, because you are." but what does that really mean?

It all depends on the context really. It could be a condescending way to say someone's retarded, or it could be a way to call someone strange or weird, sometimes it could just mean important, or different in some way. Ultimately it usually means "different" for whatever that means.

As for your case, it means he thinks of you as special to him. It means that you mean a lot to him and that he trusts you and feels he can share this with you, above anyone else, so he told you first. So in this case you're important to him. All in all this is a very good thing. If he trusts you like that then you should cherish it.

On a side note, if this guy is special to you, and you like him or have thought about him in ways beyond just friendship, then I would advise acting on it. Maybe not now, but someday. At bare minimum it's something to keep in mind. If he keeps doing things like this to show you that you are important to him and special in some way, then maybe you should consider it for future reference.
