Would managers not give you as many hours if they didn't like you? Not sure why he would, I always do my work and arrive on time...
Your thoughts?
Im actually a retail manager, and when I make the schedules I often have employees approach me looking for more hours. I'm not sure what type of job you do, but more managers would appreciate you showing an eagerness for your position by asking for more hours. I would just talk with your manager at work when they have a spare second, maybe just say something like, "hey, I'm so glad I have the opportunity to work here, is there any way I could put some more hours in?" sometime s we do play favorites when scheduling, but its not necessarily based on who we like more, its based on who is the most productive.but the fact that youd be looking forward to working more hours, proves that you take your job seriously. just ask, the worst they could say is no. :)
Just started a new job I had 25-30 hours this week but I just checked the schedule for next week and I'm only scheduled for 7.5 in one day and that's it. What do I do did I do something wrong. What's most likely going on please help asap tomorw is my last day before the week I am referring to.
Well at my job being a kiss ass works. <<minirant :p
If you like your dignity and aren't a groveling pig then do something polite but self respective.
'Hey, (insert manager name) I've seen the steep decline in my work hours. I enjoy my job (smile) and I can handle more.'
I went from 16 hours(I'm in high school) to 4 a week. Trust me, my manager showed extreme favoritism. Being polite but having dignity makes a difference.
Also put a little pep in your step when your boss is around. It couldn't hurt..and if they see you excelling but still decline to reward your hard work with more hours..try to move on
Favouritism does exist and it could influence your hours being shortened.
I'm in the same boat as you, my hours were cut without me being consulted so I asked management and was told it had nothing to do with my performance (just their f***ed up, mental logic). I'm glad I asked, because now I can look for a better job.
You should definitely find out what's going on and request more hours, if you don't say anything, they'll assume it's fine to cut your hours down.
Christmas time and New Years are difficult to schedule because everyone's home for Christmas and they all want hours etc..it should pick back up for you after the first of January. If not, just go up to them and say "what is going on with my hours". There's no "polite" way of saying it. Most managers want you to feel comfortable being honest with them. If you're not comfortable doing that, don't work for them
I think establishing a reason gives you more chance of him providing you with more hours.
Reasons always have the power over a person's heart.
Befriend him, and treat him like how you treat your best friend. Do things that will increase his respect.
