My wife gets these tubs of caramel squares covered in dark chocolate at Trader Joe's, though, that are delicious.
I LOVE coffee. I usually make 48 oz of it throughout the day at home. I use a really good quality, fair trade brand. 100% shade grown and organic.
Sometimes I'll add a tsp of Equal Exchange hot coco powder to a 12 oz mug and top it off with an ounce or so of cold, whole milk to make it extra rich. But I often drink it black. I really like the flavor and aroma.
When I was maybe 10 or 12 years old, two friends and I decided to our ride bikes 10 miles to the ocean to fish off a bridge. We got up really early to get there well before sunrise.
When we got there, one friend pulled out a thermos and said "Do you want some coffee?" I had never tasted coffee before, but it was cold outside, so I took some. It seemed like the manly thing to do. LOL
I wasn't used to the bitter taste, but it smelled good, warmed me up, and helped to wake me up. Plus, I felt grown up to be drinking coffee.
After that, I kind of liked coffee. But I didn't grow to love it until later in life.
I never drink expensive, fancy coffee at coffee outlets. I mostly make my own. The only other time I have it is when having breakfast at a restaurant. Plain old coffee is fine by me.02 Reply- +1 y
I love milk chocolate too🥰🥰🥰 😂😂 it was funny when you said it made you feel manly. Usually before I take coffee with my dad. After a run 😂 it’s part of daddy daughter morning. I’d wait for it to be warm then close my nose and gulp it down. I’ve tried iced coffee. It was sweet but I could still taste thé coffee after taste. I think that’s why I don’t like dark chocolate or coffee the both have a bitter after taste in my opinion.

I love them both dark chocolate and black coffee! But I didn't enjoy them as a kid. I started as an adult.
You probably also have foods that you didn't like as a kid but you know eat and appreciate, don't you? Most people do, anyway. These are "acquired tastes" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acquired_taste and maybe you'll recognize something you like in that long list, like peanut butter, or garlic, or wine.
Some people acquire a taste for strong and bitter flavors like chocolate. It happens maybe because someone in your family used to like it, and you kept trying it. With coffee in particular, it happens so often because caffeine is (very mildly) addictive and helps (a bit) with brain fog and wakefulness, so people are incentivized to have it again and again, until they actually like the taste.
It's a natural process that humans have to get used to new foods! It's ok if you don't like bitter things, because we are not born with that preference. There is a small chance you might also develop it in the future if you keep trying, but you definitely don't have to 😂01 Reply
+1 y1) This is why people suffer :) . Thanks to our parents or thanks to ourselves. We as humans should be able enjoy all flavours, savory, sweet, bitter, sour, spicy, (unami is imaginary, lmao,... come for me)..
Iif you learn to pair bitter food (like eat a shepherd's pie/casserole with seasoned bitter lemon gourd and the creaminess of the pie will help mask the bitterness) , or simply eat it and reward yourself with a different flavour after. Also knowing its benefits help me to enjoy.
I used to love chocolate of any sort and still do. But I made a conscious choice to (most times) buy the more nutritious chocolate: dark with slight sugar... I don't have an addiction to ""very"" (or unnaturally) sweet anyway. Thank God.
2) It's an acquired taste. Over time you get accustomed. The body is ""smart""". It knows what it needs. Once you get it accustomed you may even crave it.
...
I am realistic. I don't think dark chocolate is the best tasting thing in the world. I still have it.13 Reply
+1 yI love em both.
But those are things I have to be conscious about where and what I'm buying. Good, ethically sourced, organic ideally for both.
For coffee especially, quality matters. It's expensive for good quality local roasted beans, but worthwhile. Some of the most flavourful coffee I've had is sustsinable, locally roasted stuff sourced from a small holding farm.
But they're not for everyone, that's for sure. I find I'm more into the taste the older I get, maybe my tastebuds like more bitter tastes now?00 Reply

+1 y3 major factors. The taste, the smell and the texture. No matter how much anyone explains, you still won't get it because it's subjective. It takes 2 tango actually. People who loves chocolate and coffee also don't understand why you don't like chocolate and coffee. I may understand why you don't like them maybe its because they're both bitter and have that woody smell and you hate bitter and something woody. But some people can just disregard that because they love sweet or they may love the combination of both bitter and sweet with that woody smell.

+1 yDark Chocolate isn't as nice as regular chocolate, but it contains more cocoa and a lot less sugar so it is much better for you.
Me personally? I have bars of chocolate in my fridge that go out of date because I don't eat it that often. I have one square and a pint of water to negate the amount of sugar it has.02 Reply- +1 y
How is it so expensive? I thought that was were most of the cocoa comes from?
432 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. It's about quality, kiddo.
You're probably trying shitty American instant coffee, and 5% dark chocolate Hershey crap.
Get proper beans and brew, plus proper 85% cocoa dark chocolate and you'll know the difference. You'll never drink that coffee flavoured Starbucks crap again either.20 Reply
+1 yWell I like the bitter sweet taste of dark chocolate. I prefer it over milk chocolate as I don't like too sweet things. And about coffee, I love the smell and coffee flavours. I love coffee itself too but I don't drink it often since I'm too young and I don't want to look aged.

+1 yI ate a bit of a nutrition bar today, mainly oats and seeds, some chocolate chips inside too, and I took a sip of coffee right after and it was so freaking good… and I mean surprisingly good, like I did it without even thinking and was like “woah, that actually meshed really well.” 😅

+1 yMy mom bought a big pack of so many dark chocolates and I don't like dark chocolate very much since it's bitter but I'll eat it because I don't have anything else to snack on lol. It just leaves a gross bitter aftertaste that last like 10 minutes. And I also HATE coffee. How do people even like that?

+1 yI will tolerate dark chocolate (as opposed to milk chocolate).
I would only drink coffee if I were freezing to death and it would save me from hypothermia! Too bitter for my taste.
The thing I just abhor in food is "chickory root". It's used as a fiber additive in "health foods", and either a filler or flavoring (blech) in tea. I have to read the labels to know that stuff isn't in my foods- tastes bad to me, and upsets my poor little tummy, too.00 Reply 731 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. It a matter of personal taste, I'm sure that some of the foods you enjoy I'd find revolting, for instance I love dark an milk chocolate but I detest American Chocolate because they add enzymes which are mixed into milk to help break down fats and lipids and butyric acid which makes American chocolate taste sour to European plate.
00 ReplyStarbucks "coffee" and Hershey's "chocolate" are the absolute worst, so I hope you're not judging the taste of coffee and chocolate based upon those awful examples.
12 ReplySo I can smile at this question while menacingly taking a bite of this dark chocolate bar.
Chocolate and coffee? Never tried that. I will have 911 on speed dial.20 Reply
+1 yWhen you get older you taste buds die. You just eat dark chicane be ause you can no longer tell the difference from milk chocolate. You drink coffe because you want caffeine but if you drink a soda your pancreas and kidneys hate you for the rest of the day.
00 ReplyI like dark chocolate over milk chocolate until the dark gets too dark (anything over about 75% cacao starts to get too dry and bitter). Can't say I've ever had it with coffee though... That doesn't sound particularly good.

00 Reply376 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. I Iove coffee and dark chocolate! So good! The richer the coffee or the chocolate is, the more lux I feel. Like a mini European vacation in my senses.
00 ReplyI like dark chocolate because it keeps me from eating more chocolate than I should.
I don´t like coffee either.00 ReplyI like them both. But coffee is like beer. You get used to it and after a while you start liking it too.
00 ReplyThe dark chocolate has to be sugary as hell or mixed with fruits in order for me to like it lol. I think the coffee addiction though is a genetic thing most of my family likes it but since I have such high anxiety I barely drink it.
10 ReplyI prefer dark chocolate, you're probably thinking of some 80% dark chocolate, yeah that's not so great.
I agree about coffee, I can only drink it if it has a lot of milk, sugar, etc in it01 Reply
+1 yThey built up a taste tolerance for milk chocolate and it doesn't hit like it used to. So they go dark. It's like alcoholics or heroine addicts with tolerance being the leading factor in choosing stronger substances.
