It's possible (likely?) that the banana may become extinct.
When it does, will you mourn the demise of the banana?

This is how I feel. Supposedly the candy was made to imitate how bannas tasted before that breed of bannanas went extinct. We're left with what we got now. In a way it already went extinct. Sad. Would've never happened under my watch. Would've made France do it and make Spain pay money just to watch and lick the balls. Or the other way for all I care... I just like my bannana being handled in the best way possible.
yes, bananas are a good source of potassium.
It's one of the best selling fruit in the west so I think they'd be missed. Imagine having to explain to your grandkids what a banana was.
"Well it was kinda 7 to 8 inches. Long with a slight curve and designed to be the right diameter for your mouth. I met your granddad when I was having one on the number 21 bus and made eye contact..."
@purplepoppy Ah, the Welsh have such a beautiful way of describing things. 😉
Fun fact. The welsh word for banana is banana. But one 20th century linguist wasn't happy, so he invented ffrewchnedd, some say as a joke, you'll still see it crop up in error time to time, but it's complete nonsense.
🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍
I will mourn the health benefits I get from eating a banana that's for sure.
Thanks!!
Bananas would absolutely be missed 🍌
Beyond quick snacks, they shape desserts like banana bread, banoffee pie, and smoothies, and give body and sweetness without added sugar. In many tropical countries, they are also a staple food and key income source, so their loss would hit culture and livelihoods.
I remember roadside grilled bananas in Thailand—simple, smoky, unforgettable. Losing that would feel like losing a tiny piece of global food memory.

Well... the Indian girls would have to switch to cucumbers, I guess. :-p
But most don't want a BLACK cucumber !!!
It is the specific type of banana the “Cavendish” Variety.
In that video you linked, I did watch and enjoyed it. There is hope in Genetically Modifying the banana however they discussed something with the laws in other countries plus the consumer isn’t subscribing to the GMOs believing them to be unhealthy compared to organic foods.
I think we’ll sort this out by the time prior to the time they go extinct, although not sure.
The original pineapple that all pineapple flavour was based on - is extinct. It was wiped out by a disease, and as all the crop was clones - it decimated it.
The current crop is a slightly different, hence why the "flavour" of pineapple feels a bit more "sharp" than eating the original thing.
Banana is not a clone crop, but it is water and land heavy. We may end up losing a lot of crop due to water shortages.
If it's a nice sunny day for a month why not just grow bananas you can germinate them with a glass of water it will root and you can plant it
I would die.
I am emotionally dull, And getting any form of dopamine response out of me is near impossible, And I love bananas.
I will not but parts of the world would be devistated for sure. I haven't had a banana since the banana split Blizzard I had two years ago.
Yes I would miss them. I like them and they are a quick fix if you need a few calories to keep you going.
I would think that their seeds are in the Norwegian seed vault so we can recreate the plants any time we want. No worries. Plus specialized green houses will always have some as trophies.
The Cavendish variety has been WAY too overbred through the years. Less shelf time, less flavor. I would miss apple, pears and grapes a lot more if they ever disappeared.
I definitely would. Bananas are my second favorite fruit and the one i eat most often.
I am not a huge fan of bananas, but i do like chocolate banana pudding!
I don't like bananas myself, but they are a rich source of potassium. You could still buy supplements but who does that?
I didn't hear this about bananas. I heard it about cacao (years ago) and coffee. I would miss bananas. I like one every so often.
I do believe one type or two have already gone that way as with WWII issues of certain supply and demand.
I love bananas, a good source of potassium and as long as not over ripe help control your blood glucose levels.
Yes! I love bananas. But I think if there was a serious existential threat to the banana I would have read about it in the New York Times.
Yes, I will! I love them and eat them every day... sometimes more than one. I had 3 today.
Just like any other food, some people would miss them, some wouldn't.
Orange you glad I didn't suggest bananas! Plantains would probably go first..
Seeing as I just finished off the last of my Banana Nut Creme Cake id say so.
Meijer sure have a lot. I think the US warship at bottom of the sea is more likely
Apes will.(Trump likely read this and said the Obamas DEFINITELY would, being primates !!!)
I think I like them even though they’re my least favourite fruit
I would miss them... yes
I would miss them greatly.
I would definitely miss bananas!
I wouldn't. My kids would though.

I certainly won't😂
I know someone who has a banana tree
I bet you do, I bet you do. Say no more, squire, say no more.
@MrChinaski
Many parts of India have the perfect climate for banana trees.
