The time of disguising and hiding, feeling ashamed or embarrassed, by your bleeding has already passed. It’s called the 1950’s. We aren’t there anymore.
I feel like it’s such an important and essential aspect of life as a woman that men can not relate too. And, they also aren’t aware of it. But what if we were?
Sometimes out of sight out of mind is true. And if guys can’t know when you’re on your period we can’t know to treat you differently when you’re on your period — ie. Heckle you less, don’t try to go after sex like rabid animals when you don’t want to be seen naked (though I know period sex is a thing sometimes), as well as be more empathetic in general. Please, let us know your cycles so that we can adjust accordingly. It’s the way nature intended. After all, in caves there were no clothes, and bleeding was a clear biological indicator that men were designed to pick up on visually. Like all conservative oppressive social norms, tampons were created, much like bras, and non revealing clothing in general, to suppress the natural order.
You shouldn’t hide your cycle from the world, or from guys. It’s helpful for us to see that side of you since it’s always happening and is a core aspect of the experience as a woman — and many men don’t realize when it’s happening or what it entails. Seems stupid.
Free bleed or don’t, but let the world know what your cycle consists of. After all, it’s part of who you are.
