In my own opinion there should be other options for this poll question dear Spider Bro.

Nevertheless, in most cases I wouldn't want her to stay at home. Women have fought, are still fighting and will keep on fighting for rights and equality with men, which I respect and encourage a lot due to the fact we are humans regardless the gender and we have the right to be treated as humans.

Depending on the situation, I wouldn't mind if she really wanted it, though I don't think it is a good idea, she needs to work and live her life also outside the roof we live under to stay independent. If she stays at home, then it will be kind of a golden cage for her, she wouldn't be free.

No matter how rich her husband is, she will still have the need to go on with her career and do what she loves to do outside her home.

I don't have any problem sacrificing my career, stay at home to do what a wife at home would do, and let her have a chance to go and fly with her career! She deserves it. I am single and never been married, but in case I will, she would be treated perfectly as a Queen. She will be giving me HOME, family, children, love, respect, etc... As far as I know, my future wife shouldn't be a washing machine, babies machine, dish washer, vacuum cleaner, etc... She will be my HOME and I should take care of her and let her do what she really wants to do.

I feel like your poll options contradict. Most people who wouldn't want to be one would want their spouse to be.

Like I would like to be one, but I wouldn't want my wife to be one.

Or I would want my wife to be one, but I wouldn't like to be one.

I feel like the way the poll options are it's going to give you inaccurate results. Because as a guy I could be like I don't want to be one, but I want her to be one so I would pick the first option even though I don't personally if that makes sense. I don't know maybe I'm reading it wrong.

If i had a kid i would much rather be at home 24/7 until they start school. Then have a job that allows me to start after they leave for school and finish before the last bell.
Only when the oldest can walk the youngest home (if i have more than one) and responsibly get a snack for them and find something non destructive to do until i got home would i take on a full time position.

That would be my ideal.

I dont like the idea of letting somebody else raise my child. But, of course, my ideal is not always possible.

Fact of the matter is, i doubt im ever going to be a wealthy person. I dont have that drive or willingness to sacrifice in pursuit of higher wages, more money.
Ill always be comfortable, but never able to say if i stopped work now, ill be fine for 6 months. If i got sick, hurt. Id struggle financially. So not working while feeding another very expensive mouth?

Stay at home wife? Never. I'm out of work right now and it's not the lack of income bothering me. It's the lack of structure.

Stay at home mother? In a heartbeat. I'd have no issue being home every day if I had a child to take care of. I'm a little torn on it, though. I'm not one of those "daycare is evil and harmful for children" types. On the contrary, it can be good for kids because it lets them socialize outside of their family in a safe environment.

So I would love to be a stay at home mother, but I would be worried about finding ways to socialize my children.

Nope. I wouldn't want to be. My career is extremely rewarding. I teach, and i love every moment of it. It's not even about the money. I love my job. It does help that I get summers off -- but over those two months, I get bored and start looking forward to the new school year.

Staying at home may be for some people, and sure I may take an extended maternity leave to raise the baby for a few months if I had a child, but I wouldn't want to quit. While I have a duty to my child, when they leave the house, then what? To find purpose through my whole life, I need my career.

Itd be nice if his paycheck paid the bills and my pay check allowed us to do fun things (have nicer things, go on vacation, etc)

Also that way in the event of a sick family member we could afford me to take time off work to be the emergency contact and actually have time to handle the emergency.

My ex-wife and I both felt like we'd like one of us to be home with our children most of the time so that we were raising them and taking care of them and teaching them things rather than a daycare worker. We had very similar incomes so there wasn't any financial reason for it to be one of us or the other. I offered to be the one to stay home, which wasn't common at the time, but she really wanted to do it, so she did.

After the first child, she took a year off then started working half time and we arranged our hours so one of us was home for all but a few hours when a neighbor with a young child of her own took care of ours.

After the second child, my ex-wife decided she wanted to be a full time mother and so she quit work entirely. I was a little worried about money with just my income but we made it work.

After a few years, she did some part time work from home for a while and when the kids got older and no one needed to be home with them she got a part-time job that she had to go to.

That might not be the right answer for everyone, but that's what we did and we were happy with that.

I would prefer that we both work part time, live in a modest/affordable house, but make a decent amount per hour so after necessary expenses, we each get a few hundred spending money each month.
We would have enough time for each other, some time to ourselves for hobbies/etc. and time to spend together with kids as a family.
That is my ideal choice.
by the way, I'm mostly conservative, and most of the conservative people I know IRL had an SO that worked too.
To me, conservative doesn't mean a stay at home wife/SO, it means prioritizing family more than making as much money as possible. Time spent together with moderate living matters more than having lots of expensive possessions, and a big expensive house to try to impress the neighbors with.

I am not a mum yet, only a wife, but yes, i am quitiing my job to be a house wife, i have been working so hard for the last 3 years with very little money, i dont have any vacations or free time, working on the weekends too,, all that not for any good money, and my fiance who is soon to be husband makes a lot of money he makes 4 times the average salary so he can easily afford a good living for us, so, i am thinking of staying jobless for one year or one year and half until i get back to the cycle ,, the problem is that in my country the salaries are very low and very inconsiderate to the current prices, making you work only to survive nothing more,, he is ok with it, he sees how hard i work for almost very little money, he wishes i can work again, but he is ok with me taking some break from it

Ehhhh not really. Granted, it would be better for the child to have a stay at home mom if possible, but a lot of cons here.

1. If you have a stay at home wife and she divorces you, the courts will rape you for the fact you supported her and she wasn't working.

2. My mom was a stay at home mom. I remember hearing for years and years about how she was wasting her life and she had a degree, etc. I'd rather my woman be too exhausted from work to complain that she got to retire early.

3. If I have to work, why shouldn't she, especially if she has the same education level as me? Why should she get to retire so early?

Once I had my first baby there was nothing more important than being there for my child, and husband when he got home from work. It provided us the most peaceful family life

Its healthier for the child and the family, which shouldn't have to be stated since neglecting your children and/or having them raised by strangers being less healthy should be just common sense. I'd probably get bored but then again.. maybe not. I can play my piano, post youtube videos, workout, cook nice meals without feeling rushed, and clean without feeling rushed. I have a stay at home wife. She has been that way for the last 10 of the 11 years we been together.

She is 29 this year, essentially started the night I took her virginity and got her pregnant. We now have 4 kids with a 5th on the way.

Would it change? We have no plans to change the arrangement of her being the stay at home wife. Also quite difficult for this arrangement to change as childcare is expensive and it is difficult for her to get a job beyond flipping burgers at a McDonald's.

I was a stay at home mum for a few years, I love that I have time for my family especially the kids. For those who say thag beinf a stay at home parent is being lazy, that is very insensitive for parents staying home, doing house work, taking and picking up their kids to/from school, football practice etc. Also, it doesn’t mean that I don’t have a life, I go out with my friends for a coffee sometimes. I love being active so train everyday, going to gym, mountain biking, running, I am even training to do mg first pull up and I’m half way there!
I guess it depends on the parents, what are their interests thag keeps them busy aside from house work. But I just want to say that being a stay at home parent is like having a job where you need to work 24/7 with no holiday and without getting payed.
