If I ask a girl out and she says she is "busy" doing X. Does this mean "leave me alone" or "keep trying"?

A typical text / phone conversation conversation will proceed as follows:

Me; Hey, I was going to get a drink on Thursday night and I was hoping you could tag along, are you free?

Her: No, I am going over to my parents for dinner. :(. Sorry.

1) Is she says she is busy, and doesn't suggest a different day should I give up?

2) If she says she is busy, what is a good followup response, e.g. "What day are you free, maybe our schedules will work out" etc.

I don't speak "woman" and hopefully you all can "translate for me". I realize we are all busy these days but I get this response A LOT, sometimes I succeed with persistence but I'd rather just get her to chase me a little bit ;).

i wouldn't look to hard into her responses because she really could have had dinner plans with her parents. the fact that she added a sad face and sorry at the end, means she isn't rejecting you. she may just be purely apologizing . I'm not saying she is or isn't interested in you. I'm just saying she may not be aware you like her. because I'm completely unaware half the time.dont get too worried. try something like the movies or spoken word , or comedy house type thing. sometimes doing something different other than drink may make her more aware of you. but like I said, don't look so hard into her responses, they may just be honest responses.

As I was reading her response, my first thought was that if she was interested then she could have added'...but maybe another time?' or something related. Then you also noted this as 1) of your furthermore. I would back off in regard to pursuing going out. I would try to see how she acts since you asked...does she avoid you?, is she being friendlier and flirty? If so, be flirty back. If you don't say anything more, she may later be compelled to say...'so what about that drink?', if she ends up being interested. Good luck.

Sounds exactly like what I've written before to get out of having to go on a date- down to the :( which is put because I feel bad rejecting him.

As a side note, "hoping you could tag along" sounds pretty lame. Ask her if you can take her out next time.

I'd say don't be so eager to drop an invite on her so soon, but do try once more. If she turns you down, that is either your cue to stop or she's not suggesting other things. In either case, she should know by that point that you are interested and if she feels the same, then it's up to her to contact you. After the second time, don't spend any more time on her.

try making "getting the drink" like something really interesting or something more fun than dinner at her parents house.talk about how cool the place you are visiting is gonna be and blah blah...make let her make images of tht experience in her mind .

It means she's polite but uninterested. Either do something to interest her or back off and see if she will contact you..probably not, but it's always best if she does. Then you know you're not just one of a hundred on her list!
