What does it mean when a straight girl calls another girl 'cute'?

So, I was a student at this rural one-year boarding uni prep school, I am a female but unfortunately am unlearned in many of their ways (take pity on me 'o reader.) This year I was greatly confused, all the girls often described me as 'cute', 'adorable' and other such adjectives. I'm taller then all of them, they're all straight (to my knowledge), I'm in no way inferior or behind them in grades, fitness, ability or age (I was the eldest girl there by a few months.) So I'm confused, what does them calling me 'cute' or 'adorable' mean?

Maybe is your personality, I used to call both my girl and guy friends cute and adorable as in personality, it doesn't have anything to do with sexuality if that's what you're scared of.
And the way you're thinking too much about it is cute too! 😝

Being “cute” doesn’t mean that you are childlike or small or anything. Girls use cute to describe a lot of things. It doesn’t mean that they are attracted to you or anything thing just that they think you’re adorable.

This comment almost made me cack myself laughing. Lol, no duh my dude, I have just grown up with totally different lingo and as such have no idea what the word 'cute' means outside of the context of little sibling and small animal. Thanks for the feedback though.

Haha, I guess what I'm asking is; what does the word 'cute' mean when not applied to a small animal or kid. I kind of grew up in a place with totally different lingo and most of the students were from out of state.

I'd call someone who was adorable cute even if they are older, it doesn't only apply to kids or little animals
