So, how do you deal with period cramps?

Okay, I'm a girl who quite frankly thought when women were complaining about their period cramps that they were being overly dramatic. As someone who felt nothing during my time of the month, I couldn't relate to it and thought they were using them as an excuse to get out of doing things.

That was until I got an IUD (karma incoming), and OML HOW HAVE YOU BEEN DEALING WITH THIS? It feels like I'm constantly being kicked in the side by a buff midget at random intervals, it'll numb, pass then he'll kick again, and again, and again. One minute I'll be on the floor writhing in pain and the next I'll be fine? Even as I write this I've had to stop and take a few breathers or walk away.

So, as one respectable internet dweller to another, what are your personal techniques to suppress this torture?

Guys tend to think that those cramps are a joke, but I grew up with a mother and a sister and I've seen the results first hand. My sister suffered terribly. Once she begged me to drive her to the emergency room. Vitamin B supplements taken a few days prior, along with a tablespoon of milk of magnesia in the morning and one in the evening helped her a lot.

In an interesting twist, when I began to suffer from foot cramps at night (they were bad enough to wake me up), I began taking milk of magnesia before going to bed and the cramps disappeared. Your mileage may vary.

See your doctor. Maybe an IUD isn't right for you if it's causing you that kind of problem.

Period cramps are a nightmare!!! Some months I have it, other months I don't and when I don't have it, I feel like throwing a party. I'm the happiest woman in the world! But then, they come again and I just want to cry and curse.

Usually I take pain killers, I also lay down for an hour and massage my belly or I drink hot water. I know it sounds disgusting, but it works for me.
Also, exercising days before your period starts might help you.

I drink gripe water, which is really for babies, but releives gas, which causes most of my cramping. Then... I sit somewhere and resist the urge to throw up.
Yeah, I don't really have a way of handling it. I largely like to imagine that periods never happen, even if it's pure torment to go through and you can't exactly ignore it.

Avoid salty foods, though! It causes blood clotting, which makes your bloodflow more painful.

“be you” eucalyptus patches are extremely helpful, you can get them on Amazon. It’s almost like they numb the pain. And then ofc there’s the obvious hot water bottle (but I actually use a hot clay pak but it acts in the same way). And making sure to take ibuprofen as soon as I wake up and in intervals in the day (not exceeding recommended dosage) with a rice cake and some water. I also avoid dairy the week prior and during. I tend to drink oat milk

Jokes lmao but I dose up on ibuprofen a few days before I’m due to start and then when I do start I pretty much eat chocolate and lay in bed with a hot water bottle.

Take painkillers, put something hot on your lower belly, lay down on your side while hugging your knees and just breathe until the pain goes away

I have been suffering for years with it, I take all sorts of pain killers and sometimes injections because pills didn't work.

My mum says that the pain will stop after my first child, so now I have to get pregnant lol jk

Try to Google the "jolly device", I haven't tried it but they say it works

I am pretty physically active and use birth control that limits periods. The combination has eliminated cramping and really most periods.  My mom and sisters swear by motrin and heating pads.

Take magnesium leading up to it and stay hydrated, eat right and take it easy on caffeine. The usual pain medication and heating pad to dwal with the pain when it comes.

Heat packs work wonders for me. Plus, it might just be a placebo effect but I read somewhere that chocolate helps, and since then I've sworn by it. Dark chocolate, specifically.
