Girls, What's wrong with me? (Question about periods)... Warning personal stuff?

So... I got my period first at age 12. It was really irregular after that. I had periods of bleeding (more liike a little spotting) that never came regularly, than came all the time. When I entered high school, it started to regulate (I'd get it for about 7-9 days, heavy first then gradually lightening until it stopped), but I would only get it once every two months. Sophomore year it became less frequent, and junior year I haven't had it in like 7 months. I told my doctor my period would miss months at a time but she didn't seen concerned about it (she's a very good, trustworthy professional by the way, not some fly-by-night thing) and said it wasn't something to get too worried about. I've also been under a lot of stress-I mean A LOT of stress since high school started, ESPECIALLY during junior year, which I have been told can delay or pause periods. On top of that, I've gotten what feel like cramps but no period, which (I swear this is embarrassing) usually results in gas, or else just fades. I don't have many symptoms of PCOS (no significant weight gain, just irregular periods, hair has fallen out a little but mainly my doctor said due to stress and its not in large chunks just daily loss has increased a slight little, and a bit of facial hair growth, but I'm also part hispanic and I've threaded my face since 7th grade, so no one thought that was horribly irregular either) but I'm not sure what it is. I'm a bit embarrassed to go to the doctor but will do so if the problem truly is horrible. Has anyone else had anything like this? The pain I experience isn't constant or excruciating either, just unpleasant. Stress wise, I literally have had stress that caused my hair to fall out (like said above) and caused me to get a TMJ issue (which has resolved itself mostly).

What is causing this? Is it stress? Should I ask my doctor again (my dad has to deal with my mom's cervical cancer right now so i dont wanna worry him, ill probably ask come my next physical in a few months).

My periods were all over the place until I had my first child and I would often go a couple of months with nothing and then two in a month. Stress was a major contributor and i didn't have a single period during my last few months at uni. In short you are not alone, while the 'normal' thing is to have them regularly many of us are or have gone through the same as you. You have sought professional medical advice which is important so I would just recommend regular checkups and try something like Yoga which helped me loads to relax.
