Because they don't know. They see most guys have girlfriends, at least at some point in their lives, and because they've never tried it themselves, they figure it's easy. Men do the same thing with women on other issues, and members of other demographic groups, too. You can't really know something's difficulty until you've tried it.
It's actually not that hard as long as you are trying to participate in society for the sake of participating in society, instead of just trying to get laid.
I was under the impression that it's relatively easier for men to date and find partners 😂
