Let's assume the guy comes from a poor background and is completely self-made through his own competence. He has his own businesses and doesn't work for an employer, so he has the freedom to do what he wants.
Is it a requirement for a guy to make good money?

Yes, the amount of money a man makes is extremely important. Nothing is wrong with coming from a poor background and being self-made and a business owner is definitely great, but it means nothing if the business isn’t generating any real money to help sustain oneself. Otherwise, he’d sound like a fool that only wants to show off by claiming he has his own business. Also, yes, men are definitely more attractive if they make good money, mainly because it often shows good character and responsibility. The amount of money that a man makes determines whether or not he is able to provide for himself, provide financial security for the family and children, and determines his level of ambition in life. For instance, if we start a family, we all as adults should be able to contribute to the bills regarding our house, cars, and utilities, food, and everything needed to ensure that our kids are taken care of. If he is unable to do his part of being an adult and fulfilling these responsibilities, then he’s not worth being in a relationship with.
Men that only make a small amount of money also tend to be moochers that can barely take care of themselves. As a well-educated woman that makes a good amount of money, if I ever entered a relationship with a guy that makes much less money than me, he would constantly need money from me and would be very unlikely to contribute to bills and other necessities. No woman wants to share a household with a guy in constant need. In that sense, dating them feels more like taking care of them as if they were my son rather than my boyfriend or spouse. Moreover, if a guy makes a small amount of money and is not even trying to increase his level of income, then he lacks ambition. He very likely isn’t motivated to attend school and further his education to increase his chances of making more money. As a result, I avoid dusty broke guys like the plague. Thus, I voted "other opinion." While I don't think it's necessary for him to make 6 or 7 figures, he should be able to make enough to be able to support him in his location and still live comfortably.
What I care about is that he is hard working. That is about it. He doesn't have to be wealthy to be a good man. All he has to do is work hard and put forth effort in his career. Looks have nothing to do with it. Of course, I have to be attracted to someone to date them, but it matters little in the equation of money and attractiveness.
In your example, that is the sort of guy that I would be interested in. Came from nothing and made something out of himself. No matter if he is making loads of money or building his business is not what is important.
What is important is he strives to be more or the best that he can be. That is admirable and a quality that I would certainly find attractive. I can say that my current SO, while fortunate to be in his family's business, had to work hard at what he does.
So did his father, who built the business from the ground up. He transferred and taught those values to his son and does it ever show. My fiancé is super hard working and earns everything he has.

Money isn't going to change the appearance of a guy. Yes, it is more attractive that it came from someone who built it from the ground up but it's the act of the hard work that makes him attractive. Higher income would be cool but were just trying to live.

Appreciate it! I've been working hard for a few years now and I'm really getting somewhere. Haven't been in the dating game for a while because I didn't want the distraction. I think 2023 will be the year I'll start focusing a bit more on dating/social life.
If I met a guy who made 6 figures, I would think I was dreaming.
But it's my experience that the more money a guy makes or if he comes from money, and this goes for girls too, there's usually a huge stock up their ass.
I work in a restaurant & I watch while I'm on a date to see how they treat the staff. If you're going to treat restaurant staff like dogs, it will be the last time you see me.
My SO makes a little over $30000/yr. When I was working in the restaurant full time I was making about $40000/yr, but I had to give up my job for some time because I got pregnant & we can't afford child care. Now I'm trying to find side hustles & convince him to let me go back to work a day a week on one of his days off on the weekend.
I get that that's your experience, but believe me there's plenty of rich people who come from nothing that are very polite and tip well. I always thought that a guy that's attractive to begin with, would be more attractive if he makes 500k a year opposed to making 50k a year.
Having financial security is a plus, but definitely does not make someone more attractive, at least not to me.
As for me, there are other things to prioritize more than how much a guy is making. Money is important of course, but being in a relationship is more than about money.
Connection, vibe and compatibility together with sharing the same view and beliefs are far more important.
Having ambition and being hardworking are better to prioritize than just focusing on how much he makes. Because if a man has an ambition and is hardworking then he's gold. It means he can do everything in his power to provide for his loved-ones.
It doesn't matter how much money a man makes, just as long as he goes to work everyday. I've been w/drug dealers and bums that lived off the system. Then I met my now husband who did come from a poor family but did something with himself. He went to a tech college and got his certification for automotive repair. He opened his first shop w/a partner and then they separated bc the guy wanted to retire. Then he just went independent. Even though he makes good money, he never forgets where he came from, so he's very cheap!
Money most certainly is important. I wouldn't mind dating a guy who makes less than I do but not drastically less. I just started working my first full time job out of college. I'm hoping to make at least $70k eventually. That doesn't mean I want to be a CEO or a lawyer though. I definitely don't want a man who is broke but he doesn't have to be rich either.
i can't believe nobody thinks that somewhere in-between is okay. it's either- no it doesn't matter at all- or he's gotta be rich. that's silly. obviously money matters. but a guy doesn't have to make 6 figures. and if a woman wants more then get out and get a J-O-B and help.

There are some people that are money centered but most are not. All I personally want is someone who is independent, and can survive on his own and has for awhile before we get together.
I don't want someone who still lives with his parents and cannot even live on his own.
That could be 40k a year, or whatever is decent for a certain area.
I agree with some of the comments. I do not need my guy to make 6 or 7 figures but he should at the very minimal, be earning enough to pay his own bills and share the costs/ responsibilities in providing for a family. That we should be able to live a comfortable life
Being married I have come to realize that it doesn't matter what I think or feel about my husband making money or not. Myself I do not care but for my husband it's really important and makes him feel like he is providing something for us.
So I think it's really important for a guy to be at least making enough money to provide for a marriage and possibly family to feel completely content with himself and his life or he may begin to feel like he is not a fit partner or man.
Not a requirement, but it would motive me to work harder if I married a guy who's rich. Financial independence is the basis for me but can't helped that I'm going to suck out knowledge from him, like they say "Teach a man how to fish and you would be providing him for life"
Every self-made rich person have their methods and ingenuity or either too lucky.
I would say it close to not making a difference but I always wanted a family and families cost money. Makes a shit ton of money is not important but being able to have vacation on occasion and going out to dinner and taking the kids to the fair or a movie is important. So having a decent job is a must for me.
If that guy can support himself and contribute equally or proportionally to the household, I see no problems. I'm more impressed by the initiative and competence to successfully earn a living with your own company.
I voted other. It doesn't matter how much money he makes for me, what is important is paying for my basic needs and not being interested in how much I earn. Basic needs are shelter, food, clothes, medical care for me and our children.
If he can afford these and still not providing them, it's the same for me as if he can't afford them and I wouldn't be with him.
I think most guys aren't interested in how much girls make. I'm also more traditional in the sense that I think men should provide for their families. But wouldn't you say that a guy that's attractive to begin with, would be more attractive making lets say 500k a year opposed to 50k a year? It's not necessarily the money itself, but the freedom it buys. Not being forced to go to work on time or get fired, taking time off whenever he pleases because he's the boss, etc.
No, it wouldn’t matter to me as long as I don’t have to go to work if I don’t want to and he provides the basics. Other factors would play a role in my choice if for example two men both provide the basics but one of them earns more. Saving and investing habits are important too.

In all honestly, no... if I have to imagine being with a man, the amount of money he makes is not of major importance. Would I rather be with someone who is supportive, loving, makes me laugh, and all that jazz but it would mean we can't have all the material things? Hell yes!
Money makes somethings easier go sure, but in picking a partner, there are a whole slew of things I value more!

I agree, but this question was focused on the money aspect. Assuming you're compatible, would the same guy be more attractive if he had financial freedom with his own business making 6 or 7 figures? It's not "wishing" for rich men necessarily, just asking if it would make the same guy more attractive.
The average salary here is like €18000 at most so expecting someone to make 6 figures limits the pool by like 99%. That said, I dont want someone broke but he doesn't need to make too much.
