I’m attending a catered for dinner party tomorrow night. Several of my friends are going. One of my friends has invited himself over for lunch; so I’m reheating my best diet dinner, for his lunch, chicken parmigiana with potatoes and mixed vegetables. My friend is a big eater. I’m less so. However they weren’t specific about the amount of food we’re getting at the party. I’m also trying to watch my weight. Should I eat a big lunch, too, or have a smaller lunch, wait for dinner?

So, just my humble opinion, if you’re watching your weight then develop a proper nutritional plan. Deciding this based on our random opinion is not a good basis for doing so. I’d say 75% of health & fitness is nutrition and WHAT you eat is far more important than the quantity itself.
Invited himself for lunch eh? Interesting. Eat whatever size portion you want. Don't feel like you to need to compare to Mr Manners and how much food he devours.
Prepare some snacks, like cheese and crackers, celery sticks, sliced carrots, etc. Keep them conspicuously visible and you should have no problem with anyone going hungry.
