Is he just a shy guy or borderline insecure jerk?

I recently transferred colleges this past summer and I decided to join a new club last month to meet some new people. One of the guys has been really friendly since I met him. He always says my name multiple times, flirty touches, and talks about how great of friends we will be. But recently he started talking about some of things other guys have said about me ( they think I'm attractive, wanna hook up with me, sexual innuendos etc.) and he always make a point to tell me he is not like them and would never say those things about me. I figured at first that given his behavior he probably likes me and is trying to make himself look better, but the more he talks about these other guys the more I feel like he is being unnecessarily insecure and a jerk. I've only known him a couple weeks now, but do shy guys act like this or he is showing his true colors now?

How does his behavior project that he's a jerk? Definitely he's shy (and probably insecure). He's trying to be a gentleman. It sounds like he wants a relationship with you. He assumes you don't want to hear, "yea, me and all my friends would each like to do you hard."

Probably over thinking. It's just whenever people tell me what others have to say and make a point to note that its not their own personal opinion, I question their motives. He just said at a completely random point in a conversation too.

You're over thinking it. He's honestly just trying to be a gentleman, and he does sound shy too. He's probably being really sincere too! And you're looking for something wrong with him? Just sounds to me like he likes you a lot and wants to treat you well, and is shy / not slick.

I don't agree with the others. It sorta sounds to me like he's insecure about himself and he's talking down the competition.

It would be different IMO if he were just warning you, but throwing in the bit about not being like them and never saying those things just sounds like false nobility.
