Avoided girl after she rejected me, now she is timid, shy and nervous around me, why?

There was this girl I kinda liked and thought she felt the same way about me, but was not 100% sure. So, I asked her if she liked me, the dumbest question to ever ask a girl.

Well not only did I make her very nervous but she denied it. I did find out she has a boyfriend though.

After this happened I chose to avoid her and give her space. I'm not gonna chase after a girl who is clearly not interested. However, she went on to prove every time we were together among friends how great, good looking and special her boyfriend is. I clearly got the fact she was not interested in me so, I don't know why she did all this, but whatever. This stuff continues to this day even though she's been dating her boyfriend for some time.

I still don't talk to this girl. However, before when I happened to look at her unintentionally she would get mad at me but now she is acting very shy and nervous.

I'm trying to not even look at her because I guess I maker her uncomfortable or something. However, when I have caught her looking at me she becomes very timid, looking at the ground in front of her and nervous.

Why though? I understand she doesn't like me. I'm not chasing after or stalking her. Heck, I'm not even looking at her. I don't get it!

It would seem she actually does like you, and this makes her nervrous and uncomfortable since she's involved with a guy already.

That's not such a rare situation. You're doing the right thing by avoiding her, but she knows you are only trying to be polite, and are still attracted to her.
