My best guy friend kissed me and now he's acting weird and different?

So I've only known this guy for half a year, we met in November, then I went to England for three months in February. Before I left, we used to hang out every day at every time possible; we'd hang out before school starts, at lunch, then we would walk each other to the buses when school ended. We were best friends and we did a lot of things together, we even went to the movie theater together. The day before I left for England, I told him that I liked him and he didn't really say anything back and ignored me for the rest of the day. When I was in England, I messaged him once and he didn't respond so I assumed our friendship was over. However, when I came back home two weeks ago, he said he wanted to talk to me again and asked for my number, I was surprised when he actually texted me. We talked for several days non-stop and he even asked me out to see a movie with him. We missed the movie by accident so he asked me if I wanted to watch a movie at his house instead, so I go, we watch a movie and we end up cuddling and he brings up what I said before I left for England and he told me that he figured out that he likes me too. We make out and I really enjoyed being with him! We texted again after that and I told him that I really like him and he said he feels the same and he hopes that I don't think what happened meant nothing. We kissed last week and since then, he hasn't really talked to me, despite everything he said to me, we don't text anymore either! What is happening? I'm shy so I can't confront him because I'll become a nervous wreck and I won't be able to stop stuttering. I really liked kissing him though and I like the idea of us dating.
