Why would my crush's friend try to hook me up with my crush?

His friend tried to hook me up with my crush. I don't know my crush's friend and i only spoken to my crush once. My crush checks meout A LOT on the daily basis and i see him with this friend a lot. But he called me over where my crush was at to tell me my crush was checking me out. Was this planned? What does it mean?
