Why does a guy-friend keep bragging about Girls he is seeing?

I honestly don't know where to pin this one. I mean on one hand it first took it that he was trying to get my attention. I know he used to like me a long time ago.

On the other hand I'm wondering if he just wants me to boost his ego by exaggerating these stories. I am always very supportive when he tells me about these things. But its getting old now, and I'm pretty tired of it cause I don't understand why its being brought up all the time for?

Hi. I've been in a similar situation with my guy friend. He told me a little while back they we have very deep convos and he likes them. He told me I'm pretty and even did some cute harmless flirting with me. He talked about wanting to find the right one for a long term relationship so I always tried to give him good advice on how to do so. He did find many girls to go out with but they were just booty calls. He'd tell me about them over text and it was a little uncomfortable. This went on for a while. Then he finally found her to be with but he'd only known her a day when they had sex. He told me about that too. Then he started sending me pics of them kissing. I finally had to tell him that I didn't like him treating me like one of his guy friends. I wasn't attracted to women so I couldn't hit hands with him so to speak. He was embarrassed and apologized a lot.
I found out later that he'd wanted to see if something could have become of us. And because I didn't say I wanted to get with him, he had to do repeated attempts to try and make me jealous.
Maybe that's what your guy friend is doing. Give update if possible.

Firstly thank you so much for responding. And your situation practically sounds identical to mine. I probably would get with him if only he handled this differently. My gut instinct tells me he still likes me, but I have never had a guy go about this in this way. Also I mean what is he expecting me to do when he starts going on about these girls? Am I supposed to tell him I can't take it anymore and profess my undying love for him? I don't think guys think this through cause that is the last thing I think of doing when he is ranting on about these girls. I don't know what I am supposed to do with that. Was it worth telling him you didn't want to hear it anymore?

Your welcome. I do think he wants you to get jealous and tell him you want him.
Maybe you could tell him you can't be jealous of him being with other girls because you're not together. That could make him think to say he likes you or ask if you like him.
I told that to my guy friend but he never pursued and that was because we could've never been together. I'd thought differently of him after that situation.

next time we speak I will see how it goes. How bizarre that after all the working for a reaction your guy didn't bite. Men are so confusing... that just makes all his efforts a waste of time.

My guy friend is not done working for a reaction. He and his girl ended it and he whined for about 2 days quickly getting over it. He's currently trying to read more into things I do, for ex. we play some vid games together. I opened up the chat box to send a message to him but he got on at the same time and sent something before I could. He saw I was on there and said strange. I asked what? He said that his message was already read as soon as it was sent, like I already had the chat open. I told him I did, was about to send him something when he sent first. He replied lol ok I see.
I'm starting to not like him as a friend.

I have the same problem, my friend is a ordained preacher though, which makes things a little more complicated, but he's always looking for the perfect wife like woman, but I spend the most time with him than any of the girls he talks to. I want him to be happy but it's hard to to sit by a watch. He knows that I like him, and rejects me all the time, but he acts like he needs my approval on the girls he chooses to talk to. I don't know how to act. :( It really hurts!!

Don't worry, he isn't trying to hit on you.
If you feel like it's getting tiring, just... don't force yourself to humour him. I mean it's okay if it's once in a while, you don't have to be so receptive to him all the time.

Discretely hint to him that you have your own successes/issues in life. If the conversation goes 2 ways I guess he's a good friend to be a listening ear, but don't let him yammer on all the time, it's not a healthy friendship especially if you don't like it.

I am in exactly the same situation and it is driving me crazy. He flirts with me but at the same time tells me that he has put me in “the friend zone”(although we were never dating in the first place). I try to play it cool because I do value his friendship and he has been a supportive friend to me over the years but it is hard to listen to him talking up his dates when I am the one he comes to for reassurance and emotional support when everything falls apart. I wish I could believe him when he says that we are just friends but honestly, why would he bother to overshare this information unless he wanted to make me jealous. I think I could manage it easier if I could simply write his behavior off as being needy, however, I have had the occasional needy friend before and none of them shared their exploits with the same level of explicit detail or gusto as my friend does. He has a wide circle of male friends so I am honestly at a loss to explain why he keeps calling and texting me. It is only once every couple of days but compared with my normal friends it seems completely excessive. Am I right to be suspicious of his motives or should I give him the benefit of doubt?
