Should I smile to my crush?

It's been a long time of stares and other looks with this guy I have never talked to. Since he gave me loads of signs that I can't doubt (most of them unintentionally, he was trying to be discreet I suppose), I'm thinking about helping him approaching me as he sometimes seems to doubt.
Sooo, I'm wondering if it's a good idea to smile at him? Or if it'll just scare him and make him even shyer?
And also are there other things I can do? (something else than talking I am still too shy to try such a thing)

You don't have to smile with a big cheesy grin showing your teeth... just smile at him politely, a friendly smile not a flirty sexual one.
Buy making eye contact and smiling you are giving him a good sign of interest, this should give him the confidence to approach you.

Also it depends on the guy...
-VERY CONFIDENT MEN... will approach regardless, sign or no sign.
-CONFIDENT MEN... will approach when given a sign.
-SHY/NO CONFIDENCE... may never approach you and you may never know if they Have a crush on you.

-When you make eye contact you can smile directly at him holding his gaze... this is very intimate and a VERY strong sign.

-Glance at him, when he catches your eye look down and smile to yourself... like you just remembered something funny.

-Make eye contact for 2-3 seconds look away, then look back at him again then do what I said above^^^

But, most of the time, he's with his friends, and they know about me as they stare and whisper and all. It is just impossible to smile at him while there are his friends?

Give him a smile maybe a wink that'll get your point across if you can tell he absolutely notices and he doesn't come over he probably doesn't like you or he might be so petrified to come over, just do it several times if he doesn't get it well sucks to suck for him or you can at least move on from him.

You should smile at him, if he likes you then he will smile back. Same happened to me today.. Unfortunately he was a stranger just passing by and looking at me for a few seconds :') But I could tell what he was thinking.

But how shoud I act? I mean, if I stare and I smile, I'll look totally scary but if I only glance, will he even notice my smile?

Lol! Just smile with your teeth and in a mysterious way and keep looking for at least 2 seconds in his eyes. Then just quickly look down while you're still smiling but only with your mouth.. (like it's something between only you two someone else shouldn't notice) .. Then you can look at him again while smiling and you will notice him giggling back.. No I'm joking. but seriously, it works. It's pretty awkward since you're both so close to each other, I know how you feel about it. It's not the same as smiling at someone who is not as close and you probably won't see again. But if you'd like him to make a move.. You should try this. Also, since he's a lot with his friends - which is pretty normal - and his friends know about me as they stare and whisper, I just can't smile at him in this conditions since not only one guy will be looking but almost 5 or 6 hahaha :D

Omg, stop. I know exactly what you mean. There is a guy in my school who's exactly like that and all his friends know about me and make comments to him about me or tease him when I walk pass them. The only difference is that it's annoying me, but you would enjoy that kind of behavior since you like him. and trust me, he will definitely notice your smile, if you keep looking! Otherwise he might think that you are smiling about something else and happen to look at him at the exact same moment.

Also, one day his friend pushed him towards me and he walked on the other side head down, he seems very shy or is it just me?

Just say hi to him! I know your both shy but you have to go after what you want or you'll play this game forever. Say hello, or if there's something going on around you comment about it to him, or if he's in a group of friends talk in the group
