Being called "ugly" or "plain" is not a compliment. Being called "Cute" is a compliment.
Usually to me a Cute girl is different than one that I would call Beautiful but both are equal in my mind and both imply they are Pretty. This is what i mean...
To me a cute girl is usually on the smaller side in terms of height, perhaps she is a little curvy in the right way (not implying overweight) with a lovely face that perhaps makes her look a little younger. She probably has a very vivacious personality and is very fun to be around. She is probably very outgoing.
To me a beautiful girl is usually on the taller side. She is perhaps built a bit more slightly than a cute girl even though in terms of weight she probably weighs more. Her face might be a little more slender and she might look a little older. Often times her personality can be a little more reserved.
Now obviously i mixing body types and personality and you could switch things all around... I am just saying what I first thing of when i hear those words. All that said they are both Pretty and I have dated girls that are both like that. Ultimately for me it is personality that is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.

I think you aren't sure because may be deep down you would rather be called 'hot", "beautiful", or something more vocally powerful than simply "cute". Cute can sometimes be associated with young, little girl, nonsexual niceness; whereas "hot" is used more for a woman who is sexually desirable. Since we all want to be desired, especially by the opposite sex, being called "cute" can be insulting. The problem is, most guys aren't trying to be insulting and the word cute is often used because it is a "safe" word. No body gets hurt by being called cute, but "hot" can be taken the wrong way, or too powerful of a description for the content. For sure, cute can always become hot!

It's a good thing. I get called cute all the time. A lot of times for guys, cute will mean pretty. :)

No, and I've never understood why some girls get so mad about it. It's semantics. We could maybe hash out the difference between hot, cute, pretty, etc, but at the end of the day, it all is synonymous with "attractive", so there's no need to split hairs.
