Why is my boyfriend verbally abusive to me when he's drunk?

Every once in a while, when my boyfriend has had copious amounts of liquor, the flood gates open and he decides to release everything that has been bottled up over the two year duration of our relationship. He usually "breaks-up" with me, passes out in the guest room, and immediately apologizes the next morning. I accept, but still replay everything he said to me. I can't help but wonder, does he really mean these things? Is it me? Should I put up with this once in a while explosion, or leave him?

People say drunk minds speak sober thoughts but I disagree, some people drink so much alcohol that they really don't know what they're doing or saying, it has happened to me before when I confessed my undying love to a girl I met the same night. Thankfully she has an awesome sense of humour and took it well.

I would suggest that your boyfriend stops drinking, he seems to turn into asshole when drunk and who is to say he won't do something stupid with one too many liquors inside him?

I'd give him an ultimatum if I was you: Me or the liquor because verbal abuse is never acceptable drunken or sober.

He had truth serum, like you said, whatever he says while intoxicated was probably bottled up inside. you need to get away from this toxic environment. I drink too but i just become funny. also, just to be clear, there's a difference between being truthful and verbally abusive. if what he is saying is untrue, thats abuse, if its true... well.. dont complain.

This is not a relationship worth keeping. You are normalizing abuse and ACTING like it is acceptable? You are developing trauma triggers and replaying it in your mind. Do you have a reason, (other than "Love") that you believe that abuse is okay to accept. .

Being drunk does NOT give 1 an excuse to treat anyone badly I'm sorry. He has no right to do that to you.
I don't know what kind if relationship you guys have otherwise so I'm not gonna jump to say break up with him.

well it depends if you are able and willing to dish it out or not. I personally would not, even if its a 2 year thing.
