8 Hours and he hasn't texted me back?

A guy I'm seeing usually texts me back immediately. (I almost never text first). Last night he texted me but I didn't get to answer until the next morning. But then nothing, he never answered me again. So, what's up with that? Did I do something wrong?

Details: I stopped by work to pick up my friend for dinner. He texted me and asked why I was at work. I didn't see him, he saw me on a CC Tv monitor. Anyway, I forgot and then next morning I replied and said, "hey I just saw your text, I was there to pick up my friend. I hope you had a nice night with that coworker you hate! LOL". And then nothing. A few hours later I wrote "wait, how did you know I was at work?" because he was supposed to be on vacation and, like I said, I never actually saw him. So, it's been 8 hours since the first text I sent and 4 hours since the second text. Did I do something to make him mad? He has always texted me back immediately, why isn't he texting me back at all now?

" (I almost never text first)." YES YOU DID DO SOMETHING WRONG. You have never showed him that you actually wanted to talk to him by texting him. You are also 39 which is sad considering that you are so impatient.

That's really not fair, I grew up before texting was a thing and I have been out of the dating game for a long time and I was told by my friends that if a guy likes you he'll answer your texts right away. That's why I'm asking. Just wondering why he used to answer immediately and now he isn't.

nope, not at work until tonight and he ususally responds right away when he's at work, too. And, honestly, if you have time to eat lunch or pee you have time for a quick text. I'm worried that I said./did something that turned him off.
