What does it mean when a guy asks you questions about yourself?

I started working at my new job and I used to work with this guy who would ask me questions like what'd you do all day, when you working next, where do you live etc, does that mean he's trying to get to know me or he's just trying to be nice because I'm new, also, when I was eating he asked me if I was done so he could grab my plates, and everyone was shocked because apparently he's never don't that to new employees I don't know.. My schedule change so I barely work with him anymore and it sucks because he was the only guy that would ask me about my day and stuff..

Can it mean that he is trying to be nice? Yes. Can it mean that he is trying to get to know you? Yes. Can it mean that he's trying to be nice and he's trying to get to know you because he's interested in you? Yes, certainly.

I think that only time can say what he's really up to. Too bad you don't work with him anymore.
