Boyfriend won't add me on Instagram. What should I do?

When I asked him why he won't add me as a friend on his Instagram (his account is private) , he said that he had drama in previous relationships where his exes had issues when other females 'liked' his pics. I think it's a pure bs excuse & I am not that type of female to create drama over petty crap, especially if I trust my man.
Him not adding me is made me feel uncomfortable.
I did the unthinkable, I created a false profile to snoop, he actually added the 'fake person'. His pics etc are decent, mainly his family pics, quotes & selfies, nothing alarming. I feel left out of his social life & it is a long distance relationship. This hurts me A LOT.
Note: I am his friend on Facebook, but he rarely adds pics etc on his FB.

where as catfishing him was over the top... it sounds you do not trust him. I had similar situation. He's now 36. I'm now 32. Sadly this wasn't too long ago. For 2 years we had been friends on Facebook, its where we met. And then we dated again for a bit... he never would add me on facebook. IG. Etc. however... always knew what I was up to... which was nothing but whined about things regardless. I told him either you add me or don't. But don't stalk. Of course this led to reverse stalking and lots of arguing that was was unnecessary. Even over who did things more... most of the arguing was him starting... I warned him several times and got fed up and left. THere was a lot of other strange things he did... he was reversed you and this dude... he catfished even when he was on my social media to test me. He was freaking nuts.
I'm happy its over. Lesson learned was don't date narcissistic assholes who can't get their own shit together but dictate your life. lol

Maybe his secretive and hiding things type behaviour is what caused the drama in previous relationships - as you also don't like it and it has raised your suspicions enough for u 2 create a fake profile !

do you know his family friends etc? that side of his life is foreign to you because you're not there experiencing it with him. he is trying tonkepnyou separate deonwhatever happens between you two doesn't cause any significant changes to his "personal life".

I know just about all of his family/friends. His pics also seem to be in line with his whereabouts, and he video calls me all the time.

I simply avoid crap like IG, FB, Twitter, etc and then there's no issues. If they want to do it they can go ahead but since I have no account there's no issues if they can't add me and I can't add them.

I won't make an issue out of females liking his pics. Him excluding me from his personal social life would obviously hurt a great deal, especially since we live hours apart.

Exactly. It raised questions in my mind, hence why I also asked this question on the forum. It's been months since I requested his add, when I asked him about why he never added me & got his response, I felt hurt, became distant & lost some trust in him, felt curious so I created the other account.
Won't you feel suspicious of your significant other behavior if they did the same?

I think he just doesn't want you becoming jealous or make you feel insecure.
It's like if a boyfriend knew how many guys hit on their girlfriend/ask her out, he would become insecure too.
Some things are just better left unknown.
