Married man asked me for a hug. Is this normal?

He is a technician worked in my house a few times over the past couple of years. I might have seen him 5 times. He is very nice and friendly. Every time he came there has always been other people in my house or my kids around. The last time I was by myself. He worked we had casual conversation, I paid and a few seconds later he said with a big smile "come over her and give me a hug".
It caught me off guard so I lean over and give him a quick hug, pulled away with no eye contact and walked him to the door without saying anything.
What is this supposed to mean? Is it normal? We are both married.

Advise: The fact that you are asking whether if a guy you have met gave you a hug is normal is indication that you don't know where you stand with this man you have met. I feel as if this guy has left quite an impression on you; that is why you are asking about him.
At any which rate this man is actually something along the lines of kindred soul with you if you'd like to know. I think there were a chain of events that have led you guys together that day...

I don't know people give hugs in churches depending on the type all the time no big deal. Could be testing waters could be innocent. Wrong especially if hands accidently roam. But could very well be just wanting to be friendly. Not my thing not a huggy hands on type. If not comfortable just say that. I'm not much of a hugger sorry.

In my opinion a professional wouldn't give or ask for a hug from any client. Pay should be good enough with a thank you. Keep your boundary and make sure it doesn't happen again. If you give out the wrong impression, he possible will see it a sign for him to make a move on you.

A married guy should have his wife for comfort. Hugging is good and fine and it makes people feel better, but for him to ask you for one... it's random and a bit weird.

he just had things going on in his head while he was fixing whatever he was fixing, so he tried to make a subtle move in order not to be creepy but it went kind of clumsy in the end, that's all in my opinion

I think this is just normal. It is something like the various youtubers that walk around the city giving free hugs to strangers. Actually I would like to see more people asking anyone just for a hug.
