How to prevent it? Perhaps you should think about the thoughts you have in your head during those arguments. Are those thoughts the truth? Are they helpful? Try to change those thoughts.

Soft hearted does not equate weak, i am a mans man but cry at some music or things that really touch my soul. A soft heart is a good thing as long as you are not letting yourself be used because of it.

I have a soft spot for girls when they cry. I never show it tho if I think they're using it to make feel guilty. I act as if I don't give a fuck. But deep down, I just want to hug them. If they cry over a movie or anything else, it doesn't bother me. It's just the nature of women.
I also get a lump in my throat when I'm upset. What helps me is instead of focusing on how you feel angry/sad/upset, focus on WHY you feel that way. Also try to control your breathing. And don't be afraid to give yourself a few seconds to calm down and form your thoughts.

I cry when I feel true sadness. There is nothing wrong with that at all. It shows that you are a kind, compassionate, and caring human being, not a cold, heartless, monster, like your boyfriend. Lol
