This happened to me way too often. I don't know it’s usually done on a post when someone calls me ugly or fat. I usually have a bunch of guys trying to reassure me that I’m beautiful.
I just thank them or ignore it since I’m currently taken

Pretty much, yeah. But like I said, I don't encounter them that often. The most I ever see "white knight" being used is as a buzzword by misogynists to shut down any guy who disagrees with them (because in their twisted mindset it's impossible that a guy doesn't agree with their misogynistic opinions). That's way more pathetic to me than any actual white knighting.

Well... I can definitely tell, even if it's just written and not said in person... But I never think it's implied they expect it, it's implied they'd like it to happen.
But when it doesn't they move on. It's no big deal...
