He approaches me but then doesn't talk?

There's this guy, whom I like, and I think he might like me too, but I'm not sure. Often he sees me around on campus, like in the cafeteria or library, he'll catch sight of me, stare for a moment and then walk up to me and say "hey," but then he'll just stand next to me or sit right across from me and won't say anything else. The conversation only gets started because I'll then ask him something; it's like he's waiting for prompting even though HE approached ME. Is this just a case of he's got nothing better to do and thinks I'll entertain him, or could he be genuinely nervous?

Sounds like he's nervous but trying to play it cool. Ask him if he's shy. Or what he's up to..
