No, because I've been hit as a kid and I know that it is so heartbreaking and so saddening, it cracks your soul in half. Especially if it's by someone you love.
I wish it was socially acceptable though, especially in self defence, because when you are the exception, you get a very strong point across and you'd teach people not to hurt loved ones in general.
If you hit me, I don't care who you are, I'm defending myself without mercy.
So if a woman slaps you in the face because you said something really, really rude and disgusting to her, you're going to "defend yourself without mercy" ? Hmmm... what a man !!

If someone assualts another human being they forefeit their right to life and safety. Regardless if they're a man or a women, or whether it was provided or not as soon as you lay a finger on someone else in a threatening way that's it, that's the law. Regardless of all that though I highly doubt he meant it in that context because that's quite an uncommon occurance nowadays.

@Nachowedgie I gave you an example, specifically. And, the question does NOT refer to life threatening situations whatsoever. It addresses social acceptance for striking a woman if she hits you, asking "would you do it IF it were socially acceptable". There's NO mention of life threatening. So my answer remains the same. EVEN IF it were socially "acceptable" to hit a woman, I say "fuck that". You just don't do it if you're a real man. If you do, you're a punk and one step away from a wife beater if you "think" it's ok.

Rather, you suggested a much more violent, sweeping approach which I inferred from your answer, just as you incorrectly inferred you'd kill anyone who lightly slapped your arm. If I feel like I'm in actual danger, then I'll fight back.
But I've been hit before by people (men and women) who didn't have the physical capability to seriously harm me, and I feel like hitting them back would have been an excessive response.
If someone hits me, they know what's coming. If you don't wanna get hit, don't do any hitting, male or female.

I dont want it to be seen as socially acceptable to hit a woman.. I also want to to be seen as socially unacceptable to hit a man, for it to be seen as just as bad, and for those that do it to see the same consequences as hitting a woman.
If a strange woman hit me unprovoked, I might hit back.
